What are Reproduction Assistants?

Reproduction Assistants are professionals who help with the duplication, copying, or production of documents, images, or digital files in settings such as libraries, archives, print shops, or laboratories. Their responsibilities often include operating reproduction equipment, maintaining records, ensuring quality control, and handling both digital and physical materials. They may also assist with scanning, microfilming, or preparing materials for digital archiving. This role is vital for preserving important documents and making information accessible to others.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Reproduction Assistant, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Reproduction Assistant, you typically need knowledge of reproductive biology, attention to detail, and a background in animal science or a related field. Familiarity with lab equipment, data entry systems, and potentially certification in artificial insemination techniques are important for daily tasks. Strong organizational skills, teamwork, and clear communication help ensure seamless workflow and accurate record-keeping. These skills are crucial for supporting reproductive programs, maintaining animal health, and achieving successful breeding outcomes.

What are some typical daily responsibilities of a Reproduction Assistant in a laboratory setting?

A Reproduction Assistant in a laboratory typically supports the reproductive processes of animals or plants, such as preparing samples, maintaining records, and assisting with procedures like artificial insemination or embryo transfer. Daily tasks may include monitoring specimen health, cleaning equipment, and ensuring compliance with safety and ethical standards. This role often involves close collaboration with technicians, veterinarians, or researchers, making attention to detail and good communication skills essential.

The position supports all aspects of health center activity and service delivery, including patient triage and education, pre-op care, support of licensed staff, performance of waived laboratory tests and assisting with a variety of office duties. This is a fast paced work environment, so we are seeking a candidate who possesses strong time management and organizational skills.

Two years experience in the medical field, in a medical office and with patient care/education is required. Candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent.

Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) preferred but equivalent certifications such as Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Phlebotomist, Patient Care Technicians will also be considered as comparable education. Similar positions not requiring a certification will be recognized as equivalent experience as long as required length of experience is met.

This position will support our three Hampton Roads locations and working hours will vary depending on clinic needs. The ability to travel between sites in VA Beach, Hampton and Chesapeake is required.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (may include some or all of the following):

  • Prepare rooms, supplies and equipment prior to each clinic session and between patients; monitor inventory and report supply needs.
  • Prepare patients for evaluation or treatment, including obtaining history, checking vital signs, collecting blood and urine specimens and performing waived point of care lab tests per provider orders.
  • Assist providers with exams and procedures by obtaining information, tools and supplies upon request and in anticipation of needs; and by providing support to patients in course of their care.
  • Provide patients with appropriate and unbiased information, education and resources related to general health, family planning methods, sexually transmitted infections, pregnancy options and abortion services; obtain informed consent for requested/indicated services.
  • Perform and document Rh factor testing according to medical protocols and CLIA requirements.
  • Clean and sterilize instruments according to established protocols and guidelines.
  • Monitor patient flow to minimize wait time and maximize provider time.
  • Perform accurate and thorough medical documentation in patient records and clinic logs; file and maintain patient records.
  • Submit new and refill orders to pharmacy
  • Participate in patient follow-up systems as directed, including processing of lab results, patient reminders and patient callbacks.
  • Capture the most important factors discussed during the patient’s visit by way of scribing for the provider. Chart the patient’s visit: enter any prescriptions; enter any referrals; enter any ordered lab work.
  • Participate in clinic efforts to achieve customer service, productivity and revenue goals; demonstrate commitment to center’s operating values of patient-centered care, team approach to work and consistent regulatory compliance/inspection readiness.
  • If bilingual, provide interpretation/translation as needed to clients and other staff

This is considered an entry level position. All entry level positions at VLPP have a starting hourly rate of $19.96/hr. Bilingual candidates will be offered an hourly rate of $20.96/hr with the successful completion of a 3rd party language proficiency test.

Benefits include:

  • Vision Insurance
  • Dental Insurance
  • 401k matching
  • Employer sponsored life insurance
  • 9 paid holidays per year
  • Paid Time Off
  • Employer Assistance Program
  • Mileage Reimbursement

Schedule: Hours may vary - Monday through Saturday between 8:30am and 6 pm (rotating Saturdays and some evening hours are required). This is a full-time position, approximately 40/hrs a week. Position will be scheduled between our Hampton Roads clinics (VA Beach, Chesapeake and Hampton) as needed.
