What is a repair station manager?

A Repair Station Manager oversees the operations of an aviation repair station, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements and company policies. They are responsible for managing maintenance staff, coordinating repairs and inspections of aircraft or components, and maintaining safety and quality standards. Additionally, they interact with regulatory authorities, manage documentation, and work to improve efficiency and customer satisfaction within the repair station.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a repair station manager?

To thrive as a Repair Station Manager, you need in-depth knowledge of aircraft maintenance, regulatory compliance (such as FAA Part 145), and strong organizational skills, usually supported by an FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) certificate and relevant managerial experience. Familiarity with maintenance tracking systems, safety management systems (SMS), and quality assurance tools is typically required. Job description

We're more than aviation experts, we're pioneers. We challenge what's possible. From breaking the sound barrier to advanced tiltrotor systems. Today, Bell is shaping the future of aviation through specialized engineering. And we want you.

We are developing the future of Army Aviation with the Bell MV-75, part of the US Army's Future Vertical Lift (FVL) modernization effort. We are also developing the Bell 525 Relentless, and Bell's X-76, a High-Speed Vertical Take-Off and Landing (HSVTOL) program, a next generation stop-fold aircraft.

This role is onsite at Bells Fort Worth, TX Headquarters.

FAA Certified Repair Station Quality Operations

The Principal Quality Operations Specialist for the FAA Certified Repair Station is responsible for coordinating and validating all repair station work performed on Bell components to ensure compliance with Bell technical data, the Repair Station Quality Manual (RSQM), Quality Management System requirements, and FAA regulations.

This role oversees repair station documentation, revision control, training consistency, database accuracy, and formal audit compliance, including annual internal audits through the CASS system.

The position serves as a key interface between internal Bell Repair Station Operations, the FAA Flight District Standards Office (FSDO) and Bell Management.

The position reports to the Senior Manager Civil Certification and interfaces directly with the Bell Training Academy and Flight Research Center management and staff.

What you'll be doing as a Quality Operations Specialist, FAA Certified Repair Station:

  • Serve as the primary Quality liaison and point of contact for the Bell Fort Worth repair station, overseeing repair station capabilities and ensuring all work complies with the RSQM, Bell drawings/specifications, technical manuals, and FAA Part 145 requirements, as well as staying current on regulatory changes and their implementation.
  • Own repair station documentation, records, and revision control by reviewing and validating incoming repair documentation (e.g., FAA Form 8130-3, teardown reports, inspections, test data, certifications, traceability), maintaining and revising the RSQM, Training Manual, and Forms Manual, and ensuring accurate, up-to-date capability listings, audits, documentation records, and personnel qualifications in the Repair Station Database and Roster.
  • Administer and develop repair station training within Textron University, including creating, updating, assigning, and tracking training content related to procedures, documentation requirements, FAA regulations, RSQM updates, and Quality Operations processes, while ensuring all authorized personnel meet required training and certification standards.
  • Provide Quality Operations support by furnishing technical guidance to area managers, supervisors, and inspectors on documentation and FAA compliance, and supporting Quality Ops, Engineering, and Supplier Quality investigations with repair station documentation, traceability records, and historical data.
  • Lead and support audit and surveillance activities by conducting routine documentation audits and annual internal audits (CASS) of repair station work, capabilities, and personnel; ensuring compliance with RSQM, FAA, AS9100, recordkeeping and retention requirements; and validating effective, sustained RCCA for internal and external audit findings.
  • Support external oversight and customer confidence by preparing documentation packages, revision histories, and findings summaries for formal repair station audits, FAA/EASA surveillance events, and customer compliance reviews.
  • Drive cross-functional coordination by representing the repair station in reviews with Engineering, Supplier Quality, Procurement, and Aftermarket Services, providing updates on repair station performance, training compliance, audit results, RCCA effectiveness, regulatory risks, and supplying documentation trends, training data, audit findings, and RSQM revisions to support capability evaluations.

Skills You Bring To this Role:

  • 4-year bachelor's degree (BS/BA) in Business Administration, Industrial Technology/Management, Engineering, or similar field.
  • At least 5 years' experience as a Quality Professional in the aerospace industry, including experience with FAA 14 CFR Part 21 and 145 regulations, familiarity with RSQM structure, AS9100 audits, CASS auditing systems, FAA oversight activities, and broader regulatory frameworks (FAA/EASA/AS9100/AS9110).
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, reports, procedures, and certifications; experience in detail and component manufacturing, metal and composite repairs, and component assembly; strong analytical and problem-solving skills with emphasis on traceability and recordkeeping accuracy.
  • Experience with SAP, Enovia, Power BI, 3DX, Catia 6,  plus strong computer skills including Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and related applications.
  • Demonstrated focus on Quality & Compliance, documentation and revision control, audit execution and RCCA validation, training development and administration, and Six Sigma Green Belt (or other Continuous Improvement) certification.
  • Demonstrated leadership and strong interpersonal skills; ability to collaborate and influence across departments; comfort interacting with management, customers, and regulatory authorities; strength in technical interpretation and cross-functional communication.
