The big picture

Thorstad Companies is seeking a Renewables Estimator. This position will be responsible for providing leadership and managing the operational and financial aspects of construction projects to be completed on schedule, within budget and in compliance with Company safety and quality procedures and policies. The Renewables Project Manager/Estimator is also responsible for fostering relationships with new and potential clients, identifying potential leads and developing project proposals and estimates. As a member of the leadership team, this position also acts as a cultural manager by ensuring that the company's fundamental values and beliefs are followed and maintained.

  • Responsible for gathering, calculating and compiling data for use in estimates and preparing routine estimates
    • Attend project meetings, pre-bid meetings, and perform site investigations as assigned.
    • Conduct plan and estimate reviews for projects.
    • Complete pre-construction survey and other preliminary documents.
    • Solicit subcontractor and/or supplier quotations or scheduling input as required for the project and award contracts to selected subcontractors
    • Coordinate with other members of the team for completion of the proposal.
    • Create, read, edit and understand contracts, subcontracts, service agreements, purchase agreements and correlate quotes to the main scope and contract.
    • Review all bids for their entirety and compliance with contract.
    • Establish labor needs and confer with Human Resources.
    • Develop and complete project schedule.
  • Build relationships and champion company culture
    • Daily, set exemplary standards of ethics and stewardship of company resources, function as a team player and help maintain trust and communication.
    • Strives to exhibit and apply company values to all interactions and build/maintain relationships with company stakeholders (employees, clients, subcontractors, community members, regulatory bodies, etc.).
    • Shares knowledge of lessons learned, company values, and employees' skills and abilities.
    • Ensures direct reports and the site team utilize professionalism while interfacing with vendors, subcontractors, landowners and other community members.

Required qualifications

  • 15+ years construction experience
    Ability to work effectively with a variety of internal and external constituencies from varied and diverse backgrounds, including line and executive staff, and persons representing industry, corporate, government, and community-based organizations
    Able to adapt communication style to the speaker and possess a high degree of active listening skills
    Must demonstrate emotional intelligence; being aware of the motions of self and others
    Strong interpersonal, team building, customer service, communication, problem solving, planning and leadership skills.
    Detail orientated with the ability and organization to manage multiple projects and tasks.
    Current driver's license
    Must be able to speak and understand English
    Requires ability to read plans
