Senior Civil Engineer - Renewable Energy 

DLR Group is an integrated design firm with a promise to elevate the human experience through design. The Engineering team is seeking a Senior Civil Engineer to lead a civil engineering practice. 

Locations: Denver, CO 

Position Summary 

As a Civil Engineer you will be responsible for working in a dynamic and multidisciplinary design team to produce civil engineering designs on a variety of projects for utility-scale ground-mounted solar + BESS, utility peaking plants, mission critical and data centers, microgrids, mixed-use, commercial, educational, sports, hospitality and municipal buildings of all sizes and complexities, along with other site development opportunities.

The Successful Candidate Will: 

  • Collaborate with architects, other engineers, and clients as part of our integrated design process.  
  • Design, coordinate and prepare site development documents, utilizing Autodesk's Civil 3D software, throughout project development on a wide variety of projects. Documentation will include site layouts, horizontal and vertical control, grading and drainage, storm sewer and stormwater management design, paving, site utilities and associated civil engineering design deliverables.  
  • Perform complex assignments, using best judgment in the evaluation, selection and implementation of civil engineering techniques.  
  • Independently perform civil calculations, including code research.  
  • Prepare detailed engineering reports, narratives andjurisdiction permitting applications.  
  • Write and review specifications.  
  • Review shop drawings and other construction related correspondence.  
  • Conduct site visits as needed.  

Required Qualifications 

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering. 
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license. 
  • 8+ years of civil engineering experience with emphasis on site development related to energy projects, buildings, utility infrastructure, mission critical, or large-scale development projects. 
  • Experience working within an A/E consulting environment or Civil Engineering design firm. 
  • Proficiency in Autodesk Civil 3D. 
  • Strong understanding of grading, drainage, stormwater management, and utility design. 
  • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary infrastructure projects and leading a team of Civil Engineers. 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize competing deadlines. 
  • Understanding of permitting and regulatory requirements associated with infrastructure development. 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Experience supporting renewable energy, solar, battery energy storage, transmission, distribution, or utility infrastructure projects. 
  • Experience with data center site development and mission critical facilities. 
  • Working knowledge of Hydraflow, HEC-RAS, Storm and Sanitary Sewer Analysis, or similar civil engineering software. 
  • Familiarity with utility interconnection requirements and power delivery infrastructure. 
  • Experience with GIS and ArcGIS applications. 
  • Knowledge of sustainable site design, resiliency planning, and low-impact development strategies. 
  • Experience leading teams of engineers and designers on large, complex infrastructure projects. 
  • Experience working directly with electric utilities, independent power producers, or hyperscale data center clients.Â
