Job description

POSITION: Accounting Manager
WHO WE ARE
Heelstone Renewable Energy is a utility-scale solar, wind, and storage developer headquartered in Durham, NC, with expertise in developing, originating, financing, constructing, and operating solar photovoltaic, wind, and storage projects. Heelstone's strategy includes greenfield development, co-development, and acquisitions of later-stage projects. Heelstone has developed and achieved commercial operation on over 80 solar projects with an aggregate generating capacity of approximately 1.2 GW. POSITION SUMMARY
Heelstone is seeking an Accounting Manager who will be responsible for ensuring the monthly and quarterly accounting entries and reconciliations are complete and accurate while also helping the company assess current practices and procedures to improve the timeliness of the month-end close. This is a full-time position located in Durham, North Carolina, reporting to the Controller.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Manage the daily corporate accounting activities, journal entries, accruals, and month-end close.
  • Assist in the analysis of current procedures to identify enhancement opportunities that create efficiencies and lead to a reduced month-end close timeline.
  • Oversee the accounts payable processes for the company. This includes but is not limited to reviewing invoices, getting approvals for payments, coding invoices, remitting payments, and applying invoices to purchase orders.
  • Manage the treasury function, including overseeing the opening and closing of bank accounts, coordinating the issuance of letters of credit, and managing user access for online banking platforms as well as the overall banking relationship.
  • Reconcile general ledger accounts and related adjusting entries.
  • Develop complete and accurate accruals.
  • Oversee expense reimbursements to employees.
  • Responsible for recording accounts receivable entries.
  • Responsible for property tax filings, sales and use tax, sales tax exemptions, etc.
  • Perform analytical reviews to provide a narrative around activity in the Company's general ledger.
  • Ensure that GAAP is applied consistently to all accounting records.
  • Assist in the management, development, documentation, and implementation of business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.
  • Prepare ad hoc reporting and analysis under tight deadlines.
  • Other duties as assigned.

SKILLS AND PERSONAL QUALITIES
Highly proficient in MS Office, including, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Exceptional analytical capabilities and attention to detail
Self-starter who operates well in an entrepreneurial and collaborative environment
Strong sense of accountability, taking ownership over projects and responsibilities and resolving issues proactively.
Ability to work concurrently on a variety of projects, prioritize efforts, and work effectively under pressure.
Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills
Strong organization and management skills
EDUCATION/PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business.
CPA a plus
5-7 years of experience in accounting
Experience with Sage Intacct Construction is a plus
Experience with Stampli is a plus
Experience with FloQast is a plus
Knowledge of GAAP
Familiarity with energy financing structures
Proven ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
