Recreation Superintendent
City of O'Fallon, Missouri
Salary Range: $79,830.40-$85,000 DOQ
The City of O'Fallon is seeking an experienced, energetic, and community-focused Recreation Superintendent to lead the operations of our Recreation Division. This role is ideal for a strategic and hands-on leader who is passionate about enhancing quality of life through exceptional recreation programs, facilities, and services.
This position is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing all operations of the Recreation Division, including the Renaud Center, recreation programming, events, and customer service initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead the development and execution of long- and short-term goals for the Recreation Division.
• Direct customer service operations and respond to citizen concerns with professionalism and care.
• Oversee and coordinate the preparation, administration, and monitoring of annual budgets.
• Manage recreation and enterprise funds; identify and secure external funding to support cost recovery goals.
• Oversee day-to-day operations of the Renaud Center.
• Support Recreation Managers in managing programs and facilities outside the Renaud Center.
• Direct hiring, training, performance evaluations, and discipline for division staff.
• Lead development and administration of recreation programs, festivals, and events.
• Coordinate facility and equipment maintenance with Facility Maintenance staff.
• Prepare and review reports, and deliver presentations to civic groups, committees, and occasionally City Council.
• Serve as a key representative in public relations efforts; act on behalf of the Recreation Director when needed.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Skills
• Strong knowledge of recreation program design, implementation, and management.
• Understanding of current trends in recreation programming.
• Knowledge of human resources, risk management, marketing, and public relations.
• Familiarity with relevant local, state, and federal laws, along with City policies, purchasing, and budgeting procedures.
• Excellent supervisory, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
• Proficiency with standard office equipment and technology.
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in a related field.
• Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in recreation operations or a related area.
• Valid Missouri driver's license or ability to obtain one.
