THE OPPORTUNITY

Reporting to the Operations Manager, with a dotted-line relationship to the Plant Manager, the Purchasing & Supply Chain Specialist will play an important role in supporting Rempac's manufacturing operations through strategic purchasing, supplier relationship management, and disciplined procurement practices. Working within a lean, collaborative team, this individual will partner closely with operations, planning, warehousing, production, engineering, and leadership to ensure purchasing decisions support the organization's operational and business objectives.

This is a hands-on role for a proactive purchasing professional who enjoys building strong supplier relationships, solving problems, and identifying opportunities to improve procurement practices. This role is not about maintaining the status quo. It is about finding opportunities, negotiating thoughtfully, and delivering measurable results. With seven figures of cost savings opportunity within reach over the first 12–18 months, the successful candidate will be persuasive with suppliers, disciplined in their approach, and relentless in driving cost reductions while maintaining quality, service, and reliability.

Success in this role will come from developing trusted supplier partnerships, anticipating potential supply disruptions, and helping the organization stay ahead of challenges rather than reacting to them. The successful candidate will be someone who enjoys picking up the phone, building lasting relationships, and collaborating across the business to ensure Rempac has the right materials, from the right suppliers, at the right time and the right value.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Purchasing & Supplier Management

  • Develop and execute purchasing strategies that lower costs without compromising quality or delivery.
  • Source, evaluate, and negotiate with suppliers of raw materials, chemicals, packaging, components, and indirect materials.
  • Build strong supplier relationships while holding vendors accountable for cost, quality, delivery performance, and communication.
  • Identify and capture cost savings and payment term opportunities through negotiation, competitive sourcing (including international sourcing), and disciplined procurement practices.
  • Develop trusted supplier relationships that provide early visibility into potential supply disruptions and support proactive problem solving.

Supply Chain & Operations

  • Collaborate closely with the Operations Manager, Planner, Warehouse Manager, Production, Engineering, Sales, and other internal stakeholders to ensure effective procurement of materials, equipment, and operational supplies that support manufacturing operations and business objectives.
  • Analyze purchasing and supply chain data to identify cost drivers, inefficiencies, and opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Support inventory optimization through disciplined purchasing practices while maintaining material availability for production.

Continuous Improvement & Reporting

  • Drive cost savings initiatives that directly support profitability.
  • Track, measure, and report on KPIs including cost savings, supplier performance, supplier on-time delivery, and procurement effectiveness.
  • Ensure compliance with procurement policies, contracts, and all regulatory requirements.
  • Continuously evaluate purchasing processes and recommend improvements that enhance efficiency, supplier performance, and overall operational effectiveness.

FIRST YEAR – MEASURES OF SUCCESS

  • Drive smarter purchasing strategies that improve procurement efficiency, support inventory optimization, and deliver measurable cost savings.
  • Expand sourcing opportunities beyond the current supplier base while achieving cost reductions on existing materials through strategic negotiation and supplier development.
  • Support Rempac's growth into new product categories, including medical, packaging, and industrial applications, by developing supplier solutions that align with the organization's evolving needs.
  • Establish strong supplier relationships that contribute to 95%+ supplier on-time delivery while providing early visibility into potential supply disruptions.

THE INDIVIDUAL

Given the pivotal role this individual will play in supporting Rempac’s operational objectives and continued growth, the successful candidate will possess the following competencies, experience, and personal attributes:

Competencies and Knowledge

  • Proven purchasing experience within a manufacturing environment, ideally in the medical, chemical, automotive, industrial, packaging, or related sectors.
  • Strong track record of delivering measurable cost savings through strategic sourcing, supplier negotiations, and procurement best practices.
  • Solid understanding of how purchasing decisions influence inventory, production, and the broader supply chain.
  • Ability to analyze purchasing and supply chain data to identify opportunities for cost reduction, process improvement, and operational efficiency.
  • Experience developing supplier relationships, evaluating sourcing opportunities, and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Capacity to support business growth by identifying new sourcing opportunities and adapting to evolving operational requirements.

Education

  • A post-secondary degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration or related field is preferred; however, equivalent professional experience will also be considered.

Experience

  • 5+ years of purchasing or procurement experience within a manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated success negotiating with suppliers and delivering measurable cost savings.
  • Experience sourcing raw materials, components, packaging, or other manufacturing-related goods.
  • Strong analytical skills with proficiency in Excel and ERP systems.
  • Excellent communication, relationship-building, and negotiation skills with the ability to influence suppliers and collaborate effectively across the organization.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and accountable, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Personal Profile

  • Thrives in a collaborative, hands-on, in-person manufacturing environment where strong relationships and open communication are valued.
  • Builds strong, trusted relationships with suppliers and colleagues.
  • A proactive problem solver who takes initiative and enjoys finding practical solutions.
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized while remaining adaptable to changing priorities.
  • Confident communicator who is comfortable engaging with people at all levels, both professionally and personally.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a curiosity to challenge existing practices and identify opportunities for improvement.
