Remote Workable information

What is remote work?

Remote work refers to a work arrangement where employees perform their job duties outside of a traditional office, typically from home or another location of their choice. This setup relies heavily on technology, such as computers, internet, and collaboration tools, to communicate and complete tasks. Remote work can offer greater flexibility, reduce commuting time, and allow for a better work-life balance. Many companies support remote work either full-time or as part of a hybrid model, depending on the nature of the job and organizational needs.

How do remote workers typically stay connected and collaborate effectively with their teams?

Remote workers often rely on a combination of digital communication tools, such as video conferencing platforms, instant messaging apps, and project management software, to maintain strong connections with their teams. Regular check-ins, virtual meetings, and clear documentation help ensure alignment and accountability. Building rapport can require extra effort, so many teams schedule informal virtual gatherings or 'coffee chats' to foster camaraderie. Successful remote collaboration depends on proactive communication, transparency, and adaptability to different time zones and work styles.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote worker, and why are they important?

To thrive as a remote worker, you need strong self-management, time management, and communication skills, often supported by relevant experience in your field. Familiarity with collaboration tools like Zoom, Slack, and project management systems such as Trello or Asana is typically required. Proactive problem-solving, adaptability, and self-motivation are standout soft skills for remote work settings. These abilities are crucial to maintain productivity, meet deadlines, and collaborate effectively while working independently from various locations.

Key responsibilities

  • Apply ASC 606 to determine appropriate revenue recognition treatment for non-standard and moderately complex agreements.

Job description

The Red Hat Transaction Architecture Team is looking for a Senior Revenue Accountant to support the North America Region. In this role, you will be responsible for varied accounting and compliance activities. Your role will be split between technical accounting responsibilities and supporting the sales organization on deal structure and review.

The Senior Revenue Accountant works to ensure revenue is accurately recognised across a portfolio of complex deals, exercising sound judgment when applying ASC 606 to scenarios that don't fit neatly within standard guidance. This role partners with Deal Management, Sales, and Legal to assess the revenue implications of commercial structures - contributing to deal design proactively rather than reviewing retrospectively. The Revenue Accountant shares knowledge with less experienced peers, identifies opportunities to improve how the team works, and brings curiosity about how technology and automation can enhance revenue operations.

What you will do:

Revenue Recognition & Deal Partnership

  • Apply ASC 606 to determine appropriate revenue recognition treatment for non-standard and moderately complex agreements, exercising professional judgment where guidance requires interpretation

  • Partner with Deal Architecture, Legal, and Sales to review commercial structures during deal development - identifying revenue recognition implications early and advising on structuring options that achieve clean recognition

  • Review non-standard business terms and contract language to assess revenue impact, ensuring compliance with corporate policies while advising stakeholders on workable alternatives when proposed terms create recognition challenges

  • Coordinate deal review and approval activities using the corporate approval framework, ensuring timely stakeholder engagement and clear documentation of accounting positions taken

Financial Close & Reporting

  • Prepare account reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end close activities in RevStream and disclosure reporting, ensuring accuracy and completeness within close timelines

  • Assist with technical accounting assessments and tooling UAT as required

  • Ensure compliance with internal and SOX controls and support quarterly review and annual audit activities with internal and external audit teams

Process Improvement & Innovation

  • Identify and develop best practices and process improvements that enhance the efficiency and accuracy of revenue operations

  • Explore and apply AI tools and automation opportunities to streamline routine tasks - such as contract analysis, reconciliation preparation, or data extraction - freeing capacity for higher-judgment work

  • Contribute to the implementation of new systems, standards, and process changes, bringing a practical perspective on how changes will affect day-to-day operations

Collaboration & Development

  • Advise Project Accounting and Order-to-Cash teams on accurate deal processing, serving as a knowledgeable point of contact for revenue-related queries

  • Share knowledge and practical guidance with less experienced team members, contributing to team capability through mentoring and collaboration

  • Work effectively across geographically dispersed teams, maintaining clear communication and proactive stakeholder engagement

What you will bring:

  • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CPA, or equivalent) or relevant degree in Accounting/Finance with significant practical experience

  • 5+ years of relevant experience in revenue accounting, with demonstrated application of ASC 606/IFRS 15 to non-standard deal scenarios

  • Experience working collaboratively with commercial teams (Sales, Legal, Deal Desk)

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret ambiguous accounting scenarios and form a reasoned position

  • Experience with revenue systems (RevStream, Oracle, or equivalent)

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines without sacrificing accuracy

  • Comfortable working independently, making sound judgments, and knowing when to escalate

Preferred

  • Experience with or genuine interest in AI tools, automation, and process technology - willingness to explore how these can enhance revenue operations

  • Experience in a technology/SaaS/subscription business model

  • Exposure to SOX 404 compliance and internal controls environments

  • Experience mentoring or supporting less experienced colleagues

The salary range for this position is $79,070.00 - $126,500.00. Actual offer will be based on your qualifications.
