What is remote work writing?

Remote work writing refers to creating written content such as articles, blogs, copywriting, technical documentation, or marketing materials from a location outside of a traditional office, typically from home or any place with internet access. Remote writers collaborate with clients or employers using digital communication tools and often have flexible schedules. This arrangement allows for greater work-life balance and the opportunity to work with clients or companies worldwide.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote work writer?

To thrive as a Remote Work Writer, you need strong writing, editing, and research skills, often supported by a degree in English, journalism, or communications. Familiarity with content management systems (CMS), SEO tools, and collaborative platforms like Google Workspace or Slack is typically required. Excellent time management, self-motivation, and effective communication help writers stand out in remote settings. These skills ensure the delivery of high-quality content, meet deadlines, and facilitate seamless collaboration despite working from different locations.

Onboarding Cloud Accountant (Remote, Canada)

AMLB CPAs and Consulting

Toronto, ON โ€ข Remote

Full-time

Re-posted 16 days ago

Job description

This is a remote-based opportunity from anywhere in Canada

ABOUT AMLB

AMLB is a progressive virtual Chief Financial Officer (CFO) business that enables clients and team members to reach their potential. We partner with growing businesses and not-for-profit organizations across Canada, combining cloud technology with proactive financial advice to help our clients succeed.

THE POSITION

The Onboarding Cloud Accountant owns the first chapter of the client journey at AMLB and is responsible for leading new clients through onboarding and setting them up for long-term success.
You will work closely with clients to transform incomplete, disorganized, or inefficient accounting processes into scalable cloud-based systems and workflows. You will coordinate onboarding engagements, resolve historical accounting issues, implement best practices, and ensure a seamless transition into AMLB's ongoing service model.
As AMLB continues to grow, this role is expected to evolve into a specialized onboarding position focused on implementation, process improvement, and client transition excellence. This is a unique opportunity to help shape and build AMLB's onboarding function from the ground up.
Initially, the role is expected to operate in an approximate 50/50 structure:
50% Client Onboarding & Implementation - Lead approximately four new client onboardings per month (approximately eight active onboarding engagements based on an average 60-day onboarding cycle). Responsibilities include accounting clean-up, system implementation, workflow design, project management, and transitioning clients to AMLB's recurring service model.
50% Recurring Cloud Accounting - Support a limited portfolio of approximately 8-10 recurring clients to maintain technical expertise, support team capacity, and remain connected to AMLB's ongoing service model.
As onboarding demand increases, recurring client responsibilities will gradually decrease, allowing the role to become increasingly focused on onboarding, implementation, and continuous improvement.

THE PRIORITIES

Client Onboarding & Implementation

Lead onboarding engagements from kickoff through transition, coordinating accounting clean-up, system implementation, client communication, and handoff to the recurring service team.

Accounting Quality & Advisory

Review historical financial information, resolve accounting issues, establish reliable reporting processes, and provide practical recommendations that support client success.

Onboarding Operations & Continuous Improvement

Improve onboarding workflows, templates, documentation, SOPs, metrics, and client experience while leveraging technology and AI. Provide input into onboarding capacity planning and future resource requirements.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead client onboarding engagements from kickoff through transition to ongoing service.
  • Develop onboarding plans, timelines, and client action items.
  • Review, reconcile, and organize historical accounting records.
  • Complete catch-up and clean-up accounting projects.
  • Configure and optimize cloud accounting systems and related applications.
  • Coordinate onboarding activities across internal and external stakeholders.
  • Prepare onboarding documentation, SOPs, process maps, and transition summaries.
  • Monitor onboarding timelines, metrics, and project status, identifying bottlenecks and recommending improvements.
  • Analyze onboarding workload and provide recommendations to support onboarding capacity planning.
  • Support a limited portfolio of recurring cloud accounting clients.
  • Prepare financial reporting packages and support sales tax compliance activities.
  • Utilize AI and technology tools to improve efficiency, consistency, and client outcomes.

IDEAL CANDIDATE PROFILE

  • 5+ years of Canadian cloud accounting, bookkeeping, or accounting experience.
  • CPA designation is considered an asset but is not required.
  • Strong QuickBooks Online and cloud accounting technology experience.
  • Experience with accounting clean-up, conversions, implementations, or client onboarding is considered an asset.
  • Exceptional project management and organizational skills.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple client projects simultaneously.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced remote environment.
  • Experience working with not-for-profit organizations is considered an asset.

THE ATTRACTIONS

  • Competitive compensation of $85,000-$95,000 plus up to a 12% annual performance bonus.
  • Comprehensive, cost-shared benefits package, cell phone allowance, laptop, and $500 home office allowance.
  • Fully remote work environment with flexible hours and half-days on Fridays in August.
  • Opportunity to help build and shape AMLB's onboarding function.
  • Exposure to leading cloud accounting technology and AI tools, including ChatGPT Plus and Claude.
  • Ongoing coaching, mentorship, and professional development.
  • Direct exposure to entrepreneurs, executive teams, and not-for-profit leaders across Canada.
