The Opportunity

RCG is seeking a Systems Administrator to support a federal government customer in a fully remote environment. This role is ideal for an IT professional who enjoys maintaining secure, reliable enterprise infrastructure while collaborating with a distributed team to support mission-critical operations. Although this position is 100% remote, occasional travel to the customer site in Washington, DC may be required for meetings, planning sessions, or operational support.


What You'll Do

Systems Administration & Infrastructure

  • Administer, configure, maintain, and support enterprise IT infrastructure.
  • Manage virtual and physical servers, workstations, and infrastructure appliances.
  • Ensure the continuous operation, security, and reliability of enterprise systems through proactive monitoring and maintenance.
  • Perform operating system updates, patch management, and infrastructure maintenance.
  • Monitor system health, performance, and capacity to ensure optimal availability.
  • Perform regular backups, recovery testing, and data integrity verification.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, and infrastructure-related issues.
  • Support system lifecycle management, including upgrades and infrastructure improvements.

Operations & Reporting

  • Develop and maintain dashboards and operational reports to monitor infrastructure performance.
  • Document system configurations, procedures, and operational processes.
  • Collaborate with infrastructure, cybersecurity, and application teams to resolve technical issues.
  • Identify opportunities to improve system reliability, operational efficiency, and overall performance.
  • Participate in continuous service improvement initiatives and infrastructure modernization efforts.

What We're Looking For

  • U.S. Citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
  • Bachelors degree in information technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will be considered.
  • Minimum 5 years of Systems Administration experience supporting enterprise IT environments.
  • Experience administering and maintaining Windows-based server environments.
  • Experience supporting virtual and physical infrastructure.
  • Experience performing system monitoring, patch management, backups, and disaster recovery activities.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical users.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a remote team environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting federal government IT environments.
  • Experience administering virtualization platforms such as VMware or Hyper-V.
  • Experience with Microsoft 365 administration.
  • Experience with Active Directory administration.
  • Experience with enterprise backup and recovery solutions.
  • Microsoft, VMware, or related infrastructure certifications.
  • Familiarity with ITIL service management practices.

Work Environment

  • Full-time remote position.
  • Standard business hours with occasional after-hours support during maintenance windows or critical incidents.
  • Occasional travel to the customer site in Washington, DC may be required.
