Overview
The Systems Engineer is responsible for hands on solution development, validation, and technical integration efforts. The candidate will work with other team and support resources and delivery teams to build component solutions related PowerShell scripting, SQL support, automation and SharePoint support under the guidance of senior System Engineers, in a Windows server environment.
Responsibilities
The following statements describe the principal functions of this job and its scope of responsibility but should not be considered an all-inclusive listing of work requirements. Individuals may perform other duties as assigned, including working in other functional areas to cover absences or relief, to equalize peak work periods or otherwise to balance the workload.
The candidate for the position will:
  • Participate in the development and implementation of technical solutions under tight deadlines to accomplish project goals.
  • Perform implementation tasks ensuring work is delivered on schedule.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues as they arise during the project lifecycle.
  • Communicate with staff or clients to understand specific system requirements.
  • Design and write scripts to replace manual, complex processes with automated script-based systems.
  • Identify and recommend cost effective solutions for lowering operational costs, streamlining processes, and improving the overall operational environment.
  • Use repeatable, documented automation techniques to configure servers to meet functional specifications.
  • Communicate project information through presentations and technical reports.
  • Provide design concepts and time estimates for implementing custom solutions to customers and/or other support teams.
  • Document design, installation instructions, and other system-related information.
  • Configure servers to meet documented specifications.
  • Conduct hardware or software tests.
  • Test or verify proper functioning of software patches and fixes.
  • Execute simulations using manual or automated tools, to analyze or predict system performance under different operating conditions.
  • Develop documentation for systems, including standard configuration and operating procedures.
  • Provides input and/or support for tier 3 level remediation of production issues.

SPECIAL SKILLS (if applicable)
  • Intermediate knowledge of NetBackup, SharePoint, SQL, UNIX, Red Hat Linux, Automation.
  • Enterprise storage design/operation and virtualization (VMWare/Hyper-V)
  • SCCM, SCOM, vSphere 7/8, DataCore and cloud solutions (Azure, AWS, Google.
  • Cloud applications: OneDrive, PowerBI
  • Familiarity with Visual Studio and/or VS Code.
  • Familiarity with GitHub and/or Git.
  • IT incident management software (ServiceNow)

Qualifications
  • One year of Windows Server administration, security, and configuration management (Windows Enterprise Server 2016/2019/2022)
  • PowerShell/Python or similar Windows scripting experience.
  • Active Directory administration
  • Understanding of TCP/IP networking fundamentals.
  • Knowledge of Group Policy Object (GPO) administration/management.
  • Knowledge, administration and troubleshooting of Windows 10 and Windows 11 Operating System.
  • Effective problem solving.
  • Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Visio, etc.) to create and modify documentation.
  • Customer-support background handling hardware and software systems and ability to develop strong working relationships.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including, but not limited to, procedures and technical documentation.
  • Must be a self-starter, able to work and learn independently, in addition to being a team player.
  • Excellent customer service skills and the ability to multi-task in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.
  • Can-do attitude and time management skills are critical.

EDUCATION
  • High School Diploma or equivalent and 1 year of related experience.
  • Associates of Science (BS) degree in Computer Science or Computer Information Systems or equivalent experience is desired.

CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
  • Microsoft Azure or, Microsoft Windows Server 2016 or later, certifications are preferred.
  • ITIL version 4 certification is a plus.

SECURITY CLEARANCE
  • Will be required to obtain a Public Trust clearance.
