Senior Industrial Wastewater Engineer 
Location: Nationwide | Remote or Hybrid Eligible

This position offers the opportunity to provide technical leadership on complex industrial water and wastewater treatment projects while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams across Terracon's national footprint.

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering or Chemical Engineering.
  • 10 or more years of experience delivering complex industrial water or wastewater treatment projects.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  • Demonstrated experience leading technical teams and managing complex projects.

Essential Responsibilities 
Technical Leadership & Engineering Excellence 

  • Serve as a technical leader for industrial water and wastewater treatment projects, including:
     
    • Industrial wastewater treatment
    • Reclaimed and potable water systems
    • Groundwater and surface water treatment
    • Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) systems
  • Lead or support the planning, design, and optimization of industrial wastewater collection, conveyance, and treatment systems.
  • Perform and oversee bench-scale and pilot-scale treatability studies, including:
     
    • Data analysis and evaluation
    • Mass balance and process loading calculations
    • Treatment technology screening and selection
  • Provide troubleshooting, system evaluations, and optimization support for existing industrial treatment facilities.
  • Support operating treatment plants with process improvements and operational decision-making.

Project Delivery & Execution 

  • Manage and execute design, design-build, and construction-phase services.
  • Support equipment selection, procurement, and vendor coordination.
  • Provide construction-phase engineering services and participate in meetings with clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies.
  • Develop and review:
     
    • Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs)
    • Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)
    • Facility layouts and general arrangements
    • Plans, specifications, and technical reports
    • Work plans, SOPs, and Operations & Maintenance manuals
  • Prepare cost estimates and support alternatives analysis, pre-feasibility, and feasibility studies.
  • Develop and manage project scopes, schedules, and budgets.
  • Apply Terracon's quality, risk, and safety management practices to ensure successful project outcomes.

Collaboration & Mentorship 

  • Mentor and support the professional development of junior engineers and technical staff.
  • Collaborate with Terracon professionals across offices and disciplines to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Lead multi-office technical teams to develop treatment approaches, designs, and cost estimates.
  • Partner with senior wastewater engineers to provide technical leadership and deliver integrated project solutions.
  • Interface with internal teams and external wastewater operations stakeholders to support effective project delivery and operational alignment.

Client Engagement & Business Development 

  • Build and maintain strong client relationships across industrial markets, including:
     
    • Energy, chemicals, and power
    • Food and pharmaceutical
    • Manufacturing
    • Mining and solid waste
    • Technology and advanced manufacturing
    • PFAS
  • Participate in client meetings and regulatory coordination efforts.
  • Lead and support business development activities, including proposal preparation, scope development, scheduling, and budgeting.
  • Monitor project performance metrics and help ensure client satisfaction and repeat business.
