A Remote Voice Over job involves recording voice narration, character dialogue, or other audio content from a home studio or remote location. Voice actors lend their voices for projects such as commercials, audiobooks, video games, e-learning courses, and more. Instead of working in a professional studio, they use their own recording equipment and often collaborate with clients online. This type of work requires a good microphone, soundproofing, and audio editing skills. Remote voice actors typically receive scripts, record their lines, and submit finished audio files digitally.

What does a remote voice over do?

A typical workday for a Remote Voice Over artist often includes reviewing scripts, recording audio from a home studio, editing files, and communicating with clients or project managers for feedback and revisions. Many voice over artists juggle multiple projects at a time, requiring strong time management and organization skills. Remote voice over work also involves frequent collaboration with producers or creative teams to ensure the desired tone and delivery are achieved. While the work is flexible and can be scheduled independently, meeting client deadlines and maintaining consistent audio quality are key to long-term success in this role.

Familiarity with audio recording software (like Audacity or Adobe Audition), quality microphones, and home studio equipment is essential; some roles may also seek industry certifications or union affiliation. Reliability, attention to detail, and the ability to take direction and adapt quickly are standout soft skills in this field. These competencies ensure that voice overs are delivered with professionalism, meet client expectations, and result in high-quality audio that is ready for production use.

Can you do voice over with no experience?

Remote voice over work is accessible to beginners, as many clients seek natural talent and clear speech rather than formal experience. Building a demo reel, practicing voice techniques, and learning audio editing tools can help start a career in voice over without prior experience.

Job description

Sr. Staff Engineer (GenAI)

About the Role

Uber's Customer Obsession team builds the platform and AI that powers worldclass support across mobile, web, and voice at global scale. We are now hiring a Senior Staff Engineer to architect, productionize, and scale an autonomous support agent that resolves customer issues endtoend. Experience with  agentic architectures is an important pre-requisite to be successful in this role. You'll push the state of the art in GenAI for customer service-LLM orchestration, evaluation, safety guardrails, multilingual support, and realtime voice-while holding a very high bar for reliability and cost efficiency. We are still at an early stage and value candidates with bias for action who get creative with GenAI tools to accelerate execution and experimentation.

What the Candidate Will Need / Bonus Points

---- What the Candidate Will Do ----

  1. Own the endtoend agent architecture: agentic planning and execution loops, long-term memory, persona/voice, knowledge routing, and policy enforcement for compliant, onbrand conversations.
  2. Ship production systems that handle millions of conversations with rigorous SLOs, fallbacks, and canaries; design graceful degradation (e.g., human handoff) and safety guardrails (promptinjection, jailbreak, PII redaction).
  3. Advance retrieval & reasoning: Build next-generation retrieval and reasoning pipelines, where the agent can search across different knowledge sources, apply policy-driven tools, and call structured workflows and ensure that responses are consistently grounded.
  4. Establish evals that matter: offline rubrics, simulated scenarios, safety tests, cost/latency tradeoff suites, and LLMasjudge (with calibrated human review) wired into CI/CD and experiment platforms.
  5. Drive automation at scale: partner with Product/Design/Operations on coverage, policy alignment, localization, and rollout strategy to better customer experience and reduce cost per contact.
  6. Mentor/principallead multiple pods; set technical strategy and quality bars; coach senior engineers on agentic patterns, reliability, and experiment velocity.

---- Basic Qualifications ----

  1. 10+ years building production ML/AI systems; 4+ years leading complex ML initiatives endtoend.
  2. Deep expertise in LLMdriven systems (inference optimization, prompt/program design, finetuning, distillation/LoRA, safety/guardrails, evals).
  3. Strong software engineering in Python plus one of Go/Java/C++; handson with microservices, gRPC/HTTP, cloud infra, containers, CI/CD, and realtime telemetry/observability.
  4. Demonstrated ownership of highavailability services (SLO/SLA design, incident response, oncall leadership, postmortems).
  5. Track record of shipping customerfacing intelligent experiences with measurable impact (A/B testing, metrics literacy).

---- Preferred Qualifications ----

  1. Agentic architectures in production (planner/executor, memory, multistep reasoning) and RAG over complex, policyheavy knowledge bases.
  2. Experience building support automation for large consumer platforms (routing, policy codification, internal tooling, copilot/autoresolve).
  3. Multilingual NLU/NLG (codeswitching, lowresource languages), hallucination mitigation, safety redteaming, and privacybydesign.
  4. Practical expertise balancing speed and reliability at scale: experiment frameworks, feature flags, canary/guarded rollouts, and clear killswitches.
