Work EnvironmentRemote, primarily software development and maintenanceRemote, database development and management
Industry UsageLegacy systems, software applicationsData management, analytics, enterprise systems

Both roles often require database knowledge and remote work setup. However, Visual Foxpro Developers focus on maintaining legacy applications using Visual FoxPro, while SQL Developers specialize in designing and optimizing databases using SQL. The choice depends on whether the employer needs legacy system support or modern database solutions.

What are some common challenges faced by Remote Visual Foxpro Developers, and how can they be addressed?

Remote Visual Foxpro Developers often encounter challenges related to legacy code maintenance and integration with newer technologies. Since Visual Foxpro is a discontinued product, documentation and community support can be limited, requiring strong problem-solving skills and resourcefulness. Effective communication with team members is essential, as remote environments can make collaboration more challenging, especially when clarifying requirements or coordinating code changes. To succeed, developers should proactively document their work, leverage online forums, and maintain clear communication channels with clients and colleagues.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Visual Foxpro Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Visual Foxpro Developer, you need strong programming skills in Visual Foxpro, database management, and a solid background in software development principles, typically supported by a degree in computer science or related experience. Familiarity with legacy systems, version control tools like Git, and integration with SQL Server or other databases is often required. Excellent problem-solving, self-motivation, and communication skills are crucial for effective remote collaboration and troubleshooting. These skills ensure the ability to maintain, upgrade, and support critical legacy applications efficiently while working independently.

What is a Remote Visual FoxPro Developer?

A Remote Visual FoxPro Developer is a software professional who specializes in building, maintaining, and upgrading applications using Microsoft's Visual FoxPro programming language, often working from a remote location. Their responsibilities typically include database management, bug fixing, code optimization, and migrating legacy systems to newer platforms. They collaborate with clients or teams online, leveraging their expertise in Visual FoxPro to support business applications that rely on this technology. Since Visual FoxPro is a legacy language, these developers are particularly valuable for organizations with existing FoxPro applications that require ongoing support or modernization.

Job description

POSITION OVERVIEW
At the Cowboy Channel, we deliver the heart of western sports and lifestyle to millions of fans across the country. From the dirt of the arena to the screens in living rooms nationwide, every signal we send carries the energy of the sport we love. We're looking for a Broadcast Operations Technician to help us deliver that experience flawlessly, every time the lights come up.
You'll be the central nervous system of our live transmission operation - the person who makes sure every feed gets where it needs to go, sounds right, looks right, and hits air without a hitch. Working from a master event calendar, you'll manage encoder inventory, route live signals, and serve as a key point of contact connecting production, engineering, digital, and network operations.
Beyond the transmission desk, you'll get hands-on with studio and remote productions - running lighting, audio boards, control systems, and more - contributing directly to the live and pre-recorded content our audience tunes in for.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Allocate encoder inventory based on destination requirements and event needs.
  • Coordinate delivery, setup, and FAX checks with on-site arena contacts.
  • Route live feeds across broadcast, digital, field production, and monitoring endpoints.
  • Verify audio configurations, video frame rates, and signal quality before every air window.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between internal production teams and on-site arena crews during live windows.
  • Troubleshoot signal drops and encoding issues at first response, escalating to engineering when needed.
  • Operate studio gear - lighting, control systems, audio boards, and associated equipment - for studio and remote productions.
  • Workflow Evolution: Keep pace with new streaming trends and technical techniques, adapting daily operations to incorporate industry best practices.
REQUIREMENTS
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience in live sports, news, or studio production - roles like Studio Technician, Field Production Technician, Technical Operations Specialist, Audio Assistant/A2, or A/V Technician.
  • Strong technical foundation in modern broadcast hardware and software systems.
  • Working knowledge of video routing, audio mapping, and transmission equipment for studio and remote broadcasts.
  • Understanding of SRT, RTMP, LiveU/Bonded Cellular, Starling and Satellite Uplink workflows, internet bandwidth, technology protocols and broadcast procedures.
  • Ability to schedule and manage multiple feeds, and troubleshoot signal issues.
  • Proven composure under live conditions - you thrive on real-time comms, tight checklists, and a fast clock.
  • Sharp analytical instincts for diagnosing connectivity, signal flow, and quality issues.
  • Clear, concise communication - equally comfortable directing an arena crew and escalating to an engineer.
  • Knowledge of professional rodeo is a bonus!

This position is based in our state-of-the-art production facility in Fort Worth, Texas, with occasional remote work allowed. Some travel may be required.
