As a remote visual designer, you work from home to create unique visuals that meet the needs of your employer, so your responsibilities vary from project to project. You usually work within specific guidelines, but some clients include you in the planning and concept development process. You often work on branding projects where you create visuals, color schemes, typography, static and animated web ads, and logos. In this career, you may also have a specialty, such as illustration or typography.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Visual Designer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Visual Designer, you need a strong portfolio showcasing expertise in graphic design principles, color theory, typography, and proficiency with a design-related degree or equivalent experience. Familiarity with design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, and Sketch is typically required, along with knowledge of collaborative platforms like Slack or Trello. Strong communication, self-motivation, and time management skills help you stand out when working independently and collaborating remotely with teams. These skills and qualities are crucial for delivering visually compelling work efficiently and maintaining effective teamwork in a remote environment.

How do Remote Visual Designers typically collaborate with cross-functional teams despite working from different locations?

This collaborative structure allows Remote Visual Designers to contribute effectively to projects alongside product managers, developers, and marketers.

What are Remote Visual Designers?

Job description

MARKETING SPECIALIST

Department: Sales and Marketing

Reports To: Sales Support Professional

Location: Remote (US)

Experience: 5+ Years of Relevant Marketing Experience

Travel: Up to 20% (conferences, client meetings, trade shows)

POSITION SUMMARY

Red Clay Consulting is seeking an experienced Marketing Specialist to support our incoming marketing agency relationship and a broad range of internal marketing operations. This role serves as the day-to-day operational hub for agency coordination, conference logistics, proposal support, brand administration, and content development. The ideal candidate brings at least 5 years of marketing operations experience, expert-level PowerPoint and graphic design skills, proven event coordination capabilities, hands-on familiarity with AI-assisted marketing tools, and the ability to contribute to thought leadership and demand-generation initiatives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Marketing Agency Coordination

  • Serve as day-to-day operational liaison between Red Clay and its marketing agency partner.

  • Manage the monthly content calendar across all five retainer pillars: Video, Web, Social, Content, and Email

  • Meeting Coordination

  • Track incoming deliverables, review assets for brand alignment, and coordinate approvals

  • Maintain the digital asset library; prepare briefing materials and agendas for strategy sessions

  • Monitor campaign performance metrics and produce summary reports for leadership

Conference & Event Coordination

  • Maintain the Conference Calendar

  • Own full logistics for Red Clay conference activities at Oracle EDGE, OUUG, UTA, IUCX, and similar events

  • Coordinate attendee registration, hotel accommodations, and room block reservations

  • Research, evaluate, and book venues, catering, entertainment, and host receptions and bar events

  • Manage materials shipping, signage, on-site coordination, and post-event budget summaries

  • Execute event-specific promotional strategies, including pre-event outreach, onsite engagement plans, and post-event lead follow-up in coordination with the business development team

Proposal & Presentation Support

  • Design polished PowerPoint presentations and custom infographics for RFP responses and client briefings

  • Collaborate with business development and technical teams to develop visually compelling and strategically positioned responses to RFPs, RFQs, and Qualifications

  • Work with the Proposal Managers to administer the library of proposal content, capability statements, account profiles, project profiles, staff bios, and graphics for efficient reuse

  • Support the development of capabilities presentations, pitch decks, and client briefing materials for pursuit teams.

Content Development & Thought Leadership

  • Manage an editorial content calendar aligned with market trends, regulatory developments, utility industry events, and business development priorities

  • Partner with consultants and subject matter experts to develop compelling client success stories and solution narratives

Digital Marketing & Demand Generation

  • Administer multi-channel digital marketing campaigns including email nurture programs, LinkedIn campaigns, and paid search, to generate qualified leads and expand the pipeline

  • Administer the firm's website, including SEO strategy, landing page optimization, and analytics-driven content updates

  • Monitor and report on campaign metrics, including traffic and pipeline contribution

CRM & Data Management

  • Maintain and update Red Clay's CRM platform, ensuring accurate and current account profiles, contact records, and opportunity data

  • Administer FOIA requests as required, including submissions, status tracking, and records documentation

Brand Administration & Marketing Operations

  • Maintain and enforce brand standards across all internal and external communications, ensuring visual consistency and professional quality in all marketing materials

  • Administer Red Clay's LinkedIn presence, YouTube channel, and branded collateral library

  • Support the Red Clay Insights newsletter and Microsoft 365 template administration

  • Apply AI-assisted tools to support content creation, graphic ideation, and marketing productivity

  • Administer relationships with graphic designers, print vendors, and digital production partners as needed

SUCCESS CHARACTERISTICS

  • Strategic & Customer Insight: The best marketing specialists think beyond campaigns to business objectives. They're comfortable pulling data from dashboards and translating it into action, and they obsess over why customers behave the way they do.

  • Creative & communication — They can write a compelling headline, present a strategy to the C-suite, and align the design team around a concept — all in the same day. Storytelling and cross-functional fluency are non-negotiable.

  • Execution & adaptability — Marketing moves fast. Strong specialists manage complex, multi-channel campaigns without dropping details, and they don't panic when a channel stops performing — they pivot and test.

  • Results & accountability — They know their numbers, sweat the brand details, and don't wait to be told what to do next. Ownership and a bias for action separate good specialists from great ones.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Communications, Business Administration, or a closely related discipline is required.

  • Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in marketing operations or administration

  • Expert-level Microsoft PowerPoint proficiency; ability to build executive-quality, on-brand presentations under deadline

  • Strong graphic design capability using Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, or equivalent platforms

  • Proven end-to-end event and conference coordination experience, including vendor management and on-site logistics

  • Demonstrated working knowledge of AI-assisted marketing tools such as ChatGPT, Adobe Firefly, or Midjourney

  • Strong written communication skills with the ability to produce professional marketing content, including white papers, case studies, and blog posts

  • Strong organizational and project management skills; able to manage multiple concurrent priorities with competing deadlines

  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint, and Outlook

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Background in B2B professional services, technology consulting, or enterprise software marketing

  • Exposure to the utilities, energy, or infrastructure sectors; familiarity with industry conferences and procurement processes

  • Experience supporting RFP, RFI, or RFQ proposal response processes

  • Prior FOIA administration experience in a government, utility, or enterprise procurement context

  • Knowledge of LinkedIn Analytics, YouTube channel management, or social media scheduling tools

  • Experience with SEO, website management, or marketing automation platforms (HubSpot, WordPress, or similar)

  • Familiarity with CRM platforms and pipeline reporting

  • Experience with multi-channel digital campaign execution and performance reporting
