Opportunity
PeopleTec is currently seeking a Senior UI/UX Engineer to support our Huntsville, AL location.
PeopleTec is looking for an experienced Senior UI/UX Engineer to lead the design of intuitive, visually compelling user experiences for complex, mission-critical web applications. This includes evaluating and redesigning existing internal-facing web applications to improve usability, accessibility, and visual consistency. In this role, you will own UI/UX strategy from concept through delivery, working closely with engineering, product, and stakeholders to define and execute cohesive, scalable design solutions.
The ideal candidate has deep experience designing end-to-end web applications, can demonstrate complete user journeys, and produces high-fidelity, clickable prototypes using tools such as Figma or Adobe XD. This role goes beyond wireframes, candidates must show ownership of visual design systems, theming, and interaction patterns that scale across applications.
Duties:
  • Lead UI/UX design efforts for full-scale web applications, from initial concept through production handoff.
  • Design high-fidelity, clickable mockups that clearly demonstrate user flows, interactions, and application behavior.
  • Define and maintain application-wide design systems, including theming, color palettes, typography, and reusable components.
  • Translate complex functional and technical requirements into clear, intuitive user experiences.
  • Partner closely with software engineers to ensure designs are feasible, well-implemented, and aligned with technical constraints.
  • Provide UX guidance and design direction across multiple products or features.
  • Review and refine designs based on stakeholder feedback, usability considerations, and implementation realities.
  • Advocate for user-centered design best practices and consistency across teams and applications.
  • Mentor junior UI/UX designers and contribute to the growth of design maturity within the organization.
  • Conduct user research, including interviews, surveys, and usability testing, to identify pain points and inform design decisions with evidence-based findings.
  • Perform heuristic evaluations and UX audits of existing applications to identify and prioritize usability improvements.

Qualifications
Required Skills/Experience:
  • 5-10+ years of professional UI/UX design experience focused on web applications.
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating complete application designs, including clickable prototypes and full user flows. Candidates should be prepared to walk through at least one case study demonstrating how they identified UX problems in an existing application and delivered measurable improvements.
  • Expert-level proficiency with design tools such as Figma, Adobe XD, Sketch, or equivalent.
  • Proven experience delivering high-fidelity designs suitable for direct engineering implementation.
  • Strong understanding of UX principles, interaction design, and visual hierarchy for complex systems.
  • Experience defining and scaling design systems across multiple applications or products.
  • Strong understanding of accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1, Section 508) and inclusive design practices, including contrast ratios, keyboard navigation, and screen reader compatibility.
  • Experience working within Agile/Scrum development teams, including participation in sprint planning, backlog refinement, and iterative design delivery.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain and defend design decisions to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment composed of Government, Prime Contractor, Support Contractor, and other Government agencies/personnel.
  • Travel as required (estimated 10%).
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • An active DoD Secret clearance is required to perform this work. Candidates are required to have an active Secret clearance upon hire (or the ability to obtain), and maintain this level of clearance during their employment.

Education Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience

Desired Skills:
  • Experience collaborating closely with frontend engineers using frameworks such as React, Angular, or Vue.
  • Experience conducting or guiding usability testing and incorporating findings into design iterations.
  • Experience designing interfaces for data-heavy, technical, or enterprise systems.
