This role is critical to optimizing CIG’s tax credit strategy, maximizing cash flows, and ensuring compliance across the full lifecycle of solar and energy projects. This position will be remote with 30% travel required.

The Tax Manager will oversee tax credit qualification, tracking, documentation, modeling, and monetization opportunities – working closely with project development, engineering, finance, legal, treasury, and external advisors. The ideal candidate brings deep technical expertise, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to navigate a fast-changing regulatory landscape.

Key Responsibilities

Tax Credit Compliance, Tracking, Documentation, & Monetization

  • Manage all processes related to qualification, compliance, and reporting for renewable energy tax credits including ITC, PTC, 45X manufacturing credits, and other applicable incentives.
  • Maintain thoroughly documented, audit-ready substantiation files for eligible costs, placed-in-service requirements, project milestones, safe harbor strategies, and long-term compliance obligations.
  • Track project-by-project credit eligibility, domestic content qualification, cost allocations, apprenticeship/PW requirements (if applicable), and ownership or partnership structures.
  • Lead or support the monetization of tax credits (e.g., transferability, direct pay, tax equity structures) by partnering with legal, treasury, finance leadership, and external advisors.
  • Coordinate the preparation and maintenance of cost segregation analyses, domestic content tests, and other project-level substantiation requirements.
  • Monitor intercompany and project-level flows to ensure proper allocation of costs for ITC purposes.
  • Evaluate federal, state, and local renewable energy incentives to identify and implement strategies that maximize tax credit value across the project portfolio.
  • Support structuring of tax credit monetization pathways including transferability, partnership flips, tax equity financing, or direct pay where applicable.
  • Develop long-range forecasting models to evaluate tax credit timing, value, and cash flow impact.
  • Advise project teams on tax implications of procurement decisions, safe harboring strategies, equipment selection, and project phasing.
  • Stay current on IRS/Treasury guidance, federal legislation, and state-level programs relating to ITC, PTC, 45X, 45Q, and other renewable energy tax incentives.
  • Interpret new regulatory updates and communicate strategic implications to senior leadership and project teams.
  • Lead internal training for project managers, engineering, procurement, and operations teams on relevant tax credit compliance requirements.
  • Support preparation and review of federal and state tax filings, credit calculations, depreciation schedules, and Form 3468/other related forms.
  • Manage tax audits, inquiries, and reviews related to renewable energy credit claims or project substantiation.
  • Partner closely with development, engineering, procurement, construction, and operations teams to ensure compliance throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with finance, legal, and treasury on credit monetization strategies, transferability transactions, direct pay applications, and financial modeling.
  • Provide tax credit insights and documentation for investors, lenders, and other external stakeholders.
  • Implement and maintain tracking systems to ensure accurate, centralized management of all renewable energy tax credit data.
