Remote User Testing information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Remote User Testing position, and why are they important?

To thrive in Remote User Testing, you need strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and experience with usability testing, often supported by a background in UX/UI, HCI, or related fields. Familiarity with user testing platforms (such as UserTesting or Lookback.io) and screen recording/annotation tools is commonly required, though formal certifications are not always mandatory. Excellent written and verbal communication, time management, and the ability to provide constructive feedback help you stand out in this role. These skills are crucial for accurately evaluating digital products, delivering clear insights, and ensuring a seamless remote work process.

Is UserTesting real or fake?

UserTesting is a legitimate company that offers remote user testing jobs where individuals provide feedback on websites and apps. The role typically involves completing tests using specific tools and following guidelines, and it is widely recognized as a real opportunity for earning income through remote work.

Does UserTesting actually pay?

UserTesting pays individuals who complete usability tests, typically offering between $10 and $60 per test, depending on the complexity and length. Payments are made via PayPal after completing tests and meeting platform requirements, making it a legitimate way to earn money through remote user testing.

What is a Remote User Testing job?

A Remote User Testing job involves evaluating websites, apps, or other digital products by providing feedback on usability, design, and overall user experience. Testers follow specific instructions to complete tasks while sharing their thoughts and observations. Companies use this feedback to improve their products before launching them to a wider audience. No specialized skills are required, but attention to detail and clear communication are essential. Most remote user testing jobs are freelance or part-time, with testers getting paid per completed test.

What is the best UserTesting site?

For remote user testing jobs, platforms like UserTesting, TryMyUI, and Userlytics are popular options. These sites typically require testers to complete sample tests and have specific device or browser requirements. The best site depends on individual preferences, availability, and the types of tests offered.

What are some common challenges faced in remote user testing roles?

One of the most common challenges in remote user testing is maintaining clear communication with product teams when you are not physically present. Testers often need to quickly adapt to different products and testing tools, manage time effectively across multiple projects, and avoid misinterpretation of user feedback due to lack of face-to-face interaction. Working remotely also requires a high level of self-motivation and discipline to meet deadlines without in-person supervision. However, these challenges can be mitigated by proactive communication, thorough documentation of findings, and leveraging collaboration platforms to stay connected with teams.

What companies will pay you to test their products?

Remote user testing companies such as UserTesting, TryMyUI, and Userlytics pay individuals to evaluate websites, apps, and products. These platforms typically require testers to complete tasks and provide feedback, often using tools like screen recording and microphones, and pay per test or project.

Veracross is five product brands in one global tech company

  • Veracross SIS is a one-person, one-record school management platform

Job Description:

We're hiring a UX Design Manager to define and implement how UI/UX works at Veracross. You'll shape the end-to-end experience for thousands of users - teachers, administrators, families, students, and school leaders - who rely on Veracross to manage every aspect of school operations. This is a true player-coach role: you'll spend roughly half your time leading, mentoring, and shaping how design happens here, and the other half designing alongside your team on our most complex, highest-impact problems.

You will work across both modern and legacy design systems, improving usability, consistency, and accessibility while helping guide the evolution of our next-generation design language. This role is ideal for someone who can balance creativity with constraints, iterate quickly, and collaborate deeply with product, engineering, and stakeholders to deliver thoughtful, intuitive experiences across a complex, multi-product platform.

Responsibilities:

  • Establish the design vision, principles, and standards that guide all UI/UX work across the company.
  • Define how UX integrates with product and engineering - from discovery through delivery - and codify the rituals, artifacts, and decision rights that make it work.
  • Lead UX design across multiple Veracross product areas, including SIS, Admissions, Academics, Communications, Fundraising, and FinTech.
  • Work within and evolve our design systems, ensuring consistency across legacy interfaces while contributing to modern, scalable design patterns.
  • Conduct user research and usability testing to deeply understand the needs of diverse personas-teachers, families, administrators, and students.
  • Create wireframes, prototypes, user flows, and high-fidelity designs that communicate clear, intuitive solutions for complex workflows.
  • Collaborate closely with product managers and engineering teams, translating requirements into elegant, feasible designs that scale across the platform.
  • Partner with engineering to ensure designs are implemented accurately across Ruby on Rails, Vue.js, and legacy front-end frameworks.
  • Use AI-assisted design tools to accelerate exploration, generate variations, and support documentation.
  • Advocate for UX best practices, accessibility standards, and user-centered decision-making across the organization.
  • Contribute to design system governance, helping define components, patterns, and guidelines used across all Veracross products.
  • Document UX patterns, research insights, and design rationale, ensuring clarity and alignment across teams.
  • Support cross-product integrations, ensuring cohesive experiences across the entire Veracross platform.
  • Manage, mentor, and develop UX designers across our product portfolio.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional UX or product design experience, ideally in SaaS or complex workflow-driven products. 1-2 years or managing or leading designers
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating user-centered design, problem-solving, and clear interaction design thinking.
  • Experience working within both modern and legacy design systems, with the ability to improve and extend them thoughtfully.
  • Proficiency with modern design tools (Figma preferred) and comfort using AI-assisted design workflows.
  • Ability to conduct user research, usability testing, and synthesize insights into actionable design recommendations.
  • Strong understanding of UX principles, interaction design, information architecture, and accessibility standards.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present design decisions clearly to designers, engineers, and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience collaborating with engineering teams and understanding technical constraints across front-end frameworks.
  • Ability to work effectively in a remote, mostly asynchronous environment.
  • A flexible, curious, and collaborative mindset.
  • Authorized to work in the United States

Nice to Haves

  • Experience designing for education technology, student information systems, or multi-persona platforms.
  • Familiarity with Ruby on Rails or Vue.js environments and how design decisions translate into implementation.
  • Experience modernizing legacy interfaces or migrating products to new design systems.
  • Background in service design, workflow mapping, or complex multi-system environments.
  • Experience contributing to or managing a design system at scale.
  • Comfort facilitating workshops, design critiques, or cross-functional alignment sessions.
  • Experience working with distributed teams across multiple time zones.

Benefits

  • 3weeks of vacationper year
  • 14 paid holidays per year (including the week off between Christmas and New Year's Eve)
  • 56 Hours of paid sick leave annually
  • Top tier benefits -
    • Medical, Dental & Vision (Blue Cross Blue Shield & EyeMed)
    • Veracross LLC Fidelity 401(k) Plan - Managed by Sentinel Benefits

Salary at Veracross is determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience. The compensation range for this position is $140k to $160k (annualized USD) in addition to potential bonus.
