Remote User Researcher information

How does a Remote User Researcher effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams while working offsite?

Remote User Researchers work closely with product managers, designers, and developers, often using video calls, chat platforms, and collaborative tools to ensure seamless communication. Regularly scheduled meetings, clear documentation, and shared research findings help bridge the distance and keep everyone aligned on project goals. While remote work offers flexibility, it also requires strong organizational skills to manage time zones and coordinate with stakeholders. Building relationships and proactively seeking feedback are key to maintaining a strong connection with the broader team.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote User Researcher, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote User Researcher, you need expertise in qualitative and quantitative research methods, strong analytical thinking, and usually a background in psychology, human-computer interaction, or a related field. Familiarity with remote research tools like UserTesting, Lookback, or Dovetail, as well as proficiency in survey platforms and data analysis software, is essential. Outstanding communication, empathy, and adaptability help you effectively engage participants and collaborate with distributed teams. These skills are crucial to delivering actionable insights that drive user-centered product decisions in a remote work environment.

Job description

JOB DESCRIPTION COMPANY'S JOB DESCRIPTION LINK
Workstream's SaaS technology addresses the top pain point of the local businesses around you: hiring, managing, and retaining qualified workers. Our customers include leading brands from multiple sectors, including McDonald's, Jamba Juice, 7-Eleven, Uber, FedEx, Chevron, etc. Workstream enables these businesses to hire faster with texting / SMS, cutting in half the time to engage, hire and onboard hourly workers. The 2.7 billion desk-less workers are 80% of the global workforce but have been heavily underserved by technology compared to the other 20% of in-office knowledge workers.
At series B, we are quickly expanding our product portfolio. We are a team from Google, Uber, MIT, and Stanford. In addition, we are backed by legendary VC's and industry's experts, including Founders Fund, BOND, Coatue, the CEO of Doordash, the President of Instacart, and more!
We're looking for an experienced UX Researcher to join our growing design and research team. You will be looked upon to uncover deep insights and partner with product designers, product managers, engineers and cross-functional roles to elevate the user experience for our teachers, students, parents and school admins who use our web and mobile products every day around the world.
You must be passionate about user research, an exceptional communicator and be comfortable scaling your work from identifying new product opportunities, validating product concepts to running usability tests after products have been launched. As one of the first researchers to join our team, you'll have the opportunity to develop the user research identity, practice and culture across our company.
Senior User Researchers are leaders within their product areas working with leadership and product teams on strategy, roadmap and goals. You must be able to process a wide variety of information - product data, customer and internal feedback- to break down complex problems and frame your thinking in ways that anyone in the company can understand. It's not about what you know and can do as much as it is bringing others along with you.
We expect our enterprise product experiences to be held to the same standards as the world's best consumer products. We relish the challenges and opportunities that come with building a top notch research function - people, process, culture, growth, impact - and we need your help.
Day in The Life:
  • Design and conduct studies across key product areas, utilizing methods such as ethnographic/field research, diary studies, surveys, usability testing (remote and in-person), and any other methods you find impactful
  • Package insights into design tools and assets for the product managers and designers (i.e. personas, design principles, scenarios, frameworks, etc.)
  • Collect, analyze, and present quantitative and/or qualitative data to generate actionable strategic and tactical recommendations that can improve the product experience for our users
  • Partner with our data analytics team to provide context for their insights
  • Find compelling ways to communicate insights, advocate for our users and cultivate an empathetic culture across the company
  • Adapt and innovate research practices to meet team needs under the tight timeframes of a rapidly growing company

Who You Are:
  • Lead research experience on projects that require qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis
  • Multi-year experience managing cross-functional projects that involve key stakeholders, product teams and cross-functional roles
  • Experience working within an agile/lean product process
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Strong listening, analytical, and organizational skills
  • Enthusiasm for a team-oriented, collaborative, highly energetic, fun and fast-paced environment
  • The drive and energy to create a user-first company culture
  • An undergraduate degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Sociology, Psychology, Computer Science, Cognitive Science or comparable UX research experience
  • 5+ full years of experience working with product organizations, conducting qualitative and quantitative research studies, including usability tests, surveys, and user interviews
