What is a Remote Universe Pick Developer?

A Remote Universe Pick Developer is a software professional who specializes in developing and maintaining applications using the Pick operating system (also known as MultiValue or Pick OS) in a remote work environment. Pick OS is a multi-user, multi-value database management system that is often used in legacy enterprise applications. These developers are responsible for coding, debugging, and optimizing applications, as well as integrating Pick systems with modern technologies, all while working remotely. They often collaborate with teams through digital communication tools and may support clients or internal users from various locations.

How does a Remote Universe Pick Developer typically collaborate with distributed teams to ensure project goals are met?

As a Remote Universe Pick Developer, you will often work with cross-functional teams spread across different time zones. Collaboration relies heavily on clear written communication, regular virtual meetings, and the use of project management and version control tools like Jira and GitHub. You’ll be expected to proactively share updates, participate in code reviews, and coordinate closely with product managers, designers, and QA testers to ensure alignment and timely delivery. Building strong relationships remotely and being responsive to feedback are key to the team’s success.

Job description

Qualifications

  • 3+ years in business analysis, systems analysis, process design, consulting, or a comparable role translating business needs into working solutions.
  • Demonstrated experience designing or configuring something non-trivial and automated, and the ability to walk us through the tradeoffs you made and where it could break. We care considerably more about this than about which tools you used.
  • Hands-on experience with AI and LLM-based tools beyond casual use. You understand prompting and context, and you have seen these systems fail in ways traditional software does not.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to decompose a messy human process into steps, inputs, decisions, and outputs.
  • Data literacy - you can reason about where data lives, which system is the source of truth, and how records relate across systems, and you have the persistence to build that picture for an unfamiliar set of tools.
  • Comfortable reading technical documentation and API references independently, and reading configuration or code well enough to understand what a workflow is doing.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to facilitate working sessions and present to stakeholders.
  • Experience in testing, QA, and root cause analysis of issues.
  • Ability to build effective stakeholder partnerships.

Strongly Preferred

  • Familiarity with any part of the marketing domain - content production, events, research, partner programs, campaign structure, or audience segmentation. Deep expertise in any one area is not required.
  • Exposure to agent frameworks, orchestration tooling, or emerging standards for connecting AI systems to enterprise tools and data.
  • Familiarity with work management tools such as Shortcut, Jira, or similar.
  • Proven track record of independently owning a workstream or product area end to end.
  • Experience introducing a new capability or way of working to an audience that was not asking for it.

A Note on the Technical Bar

You will notice this posting does not ask for a programming language. That is deliberate. We believe the leverage in this work is shifting away from syntax fluency and toward sound judgment about configuration, guardrails, data, and how people and agents divide up a workflow. We have staffed the team accordingly, and there are experienced engineers here who lead the problems that require custom code. If you write code, that is welcome and useful. If you do not, it will not hold you back - but you do need to be technical enough to reason about how systems fit together and to tell a working solution from one that only looks like it works.

Location and Travel

This role is based in St. Louis, Missouri, on a hybrid schedule of a few days per month onsite. Strong remote candidates will be considered, with less than 10% travel to St. Louis.

Who You Are

The right person for this role is confident, self-managed, and does not wait to be told there is a problem. Beyond the qualifications, we are looking for someone who is:

  • A problem solver who takes ownership and sees things through.
  • Efficient and organized - you prioritize well and rarely need to be chased down.
  • Intellectually curious - you pick up new domains quickly and enjoy learning how things work.
  • A critical thinker who asks why, looks for patterns, and connects dots others miss.
  • Analytically minded - comfortable with data and able to use it to tell a story and drive decisions.
  • A strong communicator with great soft skills - you build relationships easily and know how to read a room.
  • A go-getter who looks for opportunities to add value beyond what is assigned.
