Job description

POSITION SUMMARY

The Laboratory Director provides part-time, contracted physician oversight of New Pathway Recovery IOP LLC's ("NPR" or "the Program") point-of-care urine drug testing (UDT) activities performed under NPR's CLIA Certificate of Waiver. The Laboratory Director's role is deliberately narrow in scope: the Laboratory Director authorizes and orders random urinalysis testing for clients enrolled in the Program and reviews the resulting lab results for accuracy and completeness. The Laboratory Director does not determine or direct any resulting change to a client's plan of care. Any positive urinalysis result is addressed by the Program's Clinical Director, who is responsible for modifying the treatment plan as clinically indicated, acting under the Program's clinical policies.

CLASSIFICATION

Independent Contractor (1099), Part-Time, Remote/As-Needed Basis. Not a Program employee. Not the Program's Medical Director unless separately contracted under a Medical Director Services Addendum.

REPORTS TO / COORDINATES WITH

Administratively reports to the CEO/Owner. Coordinates on testing protocol matters with the Program Director and Clinical Director. Does not supervise or direct clinical, counseling, or case management staff.

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY

●     Serve as the Laboratory Director of record for NPR's CLIA Certificate of Waiver, meeting all applicable California Business & Professions Code §1209 qualification requirements.

●     Authorize and issue orders for random urinalysis (UDT) screening of Program clients, consistent with NPR's UDT protocol (CLN-029) and testing schedule.

●     Review and sign off on testing orders and resulting lab results submitted through the Program's EMR in a timely manner, consistent with the Program's routine and for-cause turnaround standards.

●     Communicate any positive urinalysis result to the Program's Clinical Director promptly upon review.

●     Maintain any credentialing, licensure, and documentation required to remain eligible to serve as Laboratory Director under state and CLIA requirements.

●     Be reasonably available for periodic consultation with the Program regarding testing protocol, quality control, and regulatory compliance matters directly tied to the CLIA waiver.

EXPLICITLY OUTSIDE THIS ROLE'S SCOPE

To be clear about the boundaries of this position: the Laboratory Director is not responsible for determining or revising a client's treatment plan in response to a positive result, and does not provide direct client care. When a random urinalysis returns positive, responsibility for addressing the result with the client and updating the treatment plan as clinically indicated belongs to the Program's Clinical Director, under the Program's clinical policies. The Laboratory Director's obligation under this role is limited to authorizing and ordering the testing, reviewing the resulting lab results, and communicating positive results to the Clinical Director.

QUALIFICATIONS

●     Current, unrestricted physician license to practice medicine in the State of California (or other qualifying licensure/scientist credential under BPC §1209).

●     Eligible and willing to serve as Laboratory Director of record under a CLIA Certificate of Waiver.

●     Experience with or working knowledge of substance use disorder treatment and point-of-care urine drug testing preferred.

●     Good standing with the Medical Board of California; no disciplinary actions that would impair credentialing.

●     Able to respond to order requests within the Program's required turnaround windows.

TIME COMMITMENT

Part-time, contracted basis. Anticipated time commitment is limited given the narrow scope of the role (ordering authority for random urinalysis only) and will be confirmed in the contracted agreement.

COMPENSATION

Compensation for this position will be discussed and agreed upon during the interview process and documented in the Laboratory Director's independent contractor agreement.

AGREEMENT

This position operates under a separate signed independent contractor agreement, which governs the legal and contractual terms of engagement. This job description defines role scope and responsibilities and does not itself constitute a contract of employment or engagement.
