POSITION SUMMARY:

The SoftwareEngineer II is responsible for designing, developing, and implementing softwaresolutions that address complex business needs and support strategicinitiatives. In collaboration with stakeholders and team members, this positiontranslates business requirements into innovative, user-centered solutions andapplies modern technologies, methodologies, and best practices throughout thesoftware development life cycle. This role provides exceptional customerservice through proactive communication, responsiveness, and a commitment todelivering high-quality solutions that meet business unit needs.
The successfulcandidate will be a highly motivated self-starter who brings energy,initiative, and a passion for problem-solving. They will bring a collaborativemindset, approach challenges with a sense of urgency, and demonstrate acommitment to continuously improving processes, enhancing efficiency, anddelivering high-quality results.  Uponsuccessful completion of the on-campus onboarding and training period, employeesmay choose either a remote or on-campus work arrangement that best supportstheir work style. Individuals in this role should anticipate being on campus aminimum of two times per year, as well as periodically to support operationaland business needs.

DUTIES ANDRESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides support for high priority web services including the University webportal and mobile application, as well as other custom and third-party softwaresolutions (includes scheduling and performing application installations,maintenance, monitoring, patches, performance tuning, upgrades, accountmanagement, and theme and custom feature development).  Performs application troubleshootingincluding initial assessment, review of log anomalies and root causeanalysis.  Will work with a team of otherIT areas including Systems Administrators, Database Administrators and NetworkEngineers to ensure proper performance and high availability of custom and third-partyweb applications.
Develops andsupports in-house JAVA applications including design and development ofuser-centric interfaces for web and mobile applications.   Develops and supports Single-Sign-Onsolutions including Ethos Identity Services, Shibboleth and JAVA encryptionbased SSO applications.  Develop softwaresolutions to support application integration including integration between theUniversity portal and mobile applications with University CMS, University ERPand custom web applications.  
Configuresvendor-provided APIs or develops custom APIs to enable system integrationsusing technologies such as single sign-on (SSO), LDAP authentication, andidentity management solutions.
Builds features and applications with a mobile responsive design and ensurecompatibility across current browsers and platforms.  
Recommends browser compatibilityrequirements.  Adheres to standards andexamines sites/applications for Section 508/ADA and Web standards complianceissues.  Tests all released code forcompliance.  
Creates andmanages service requests with vendors and take necessary maintenance andtroubleshooting actions.  Responds to andresolves basic issues, escalates issues when necessary, and works with endusers and/or other technical or functional teams to diagnose and correctproblems.  Maintains relationships withcounterparts at other institutions while remaining active on message boards andmailing lists related to tasks performed.  
Leads small tomedium-sized projects and participate in software evaluations to supportevolving business needs.  Assists in thecollection of data, and aids in the creation of performance metrics to look foropportunities to improve software.
Implementssecurity and data protection settings, enforcing security procedures and bestpractices at all times.  Helps toidentify and investigate security risks.
Assists in thedevelopment of standards, procedures and processes for application engineering,application integration, application approval and testing for all the web andmobile based services.  Provides guidanceand mentoring to junior level team members in support of best practices forapplication systems analyzing, software engineering and testing.
Creates, reviews,and updates Web Services team documentation including functional and technicalspecifications, source code notes, schematics, overviews and trainingdocumentation according to standards.  Creates training documentation and train end users on functional uses ofWeb applications.
