Job description

Overview

This is a remote role that may be hired in several markets across the United States. 

This position assesses the Bank's financial risk on potential borrowers applying for mortgage loans at a high level of complexity and ability. Analyzes borrower applications to determine appropriate loan structuring, potential risk, and loan eligibility, and makes the decision to accept or reject based on review. Ensures the salability of the loan to the selected investor under the specified loan program. Provides support for loan closing activities and clients while protecting the Bank from fraud, misrepresentation, and default. Responsible to meet production and quality expectations.


Responsibilities
  • Loan Underwriting - Documents and underwrites mortgage loans products. Gathers and reviews information pertaining to the applicant's income, assets, debts, and credit history to determine ability to repay the mortgage loan. Applies product and investor specific underwriting and documentation guidelines. Utilizes underwriting results to either approve or decline the loan.
  • Application Review - Reviews new applications for completeness and inclusion of necessary documentation. Determines eligibility of the loan for the selected product and investor, or more appropriate alternatives. Ensures accuracy and acceptance of income, asset, debt calculations and credit history. Seeks resolution for any identified discrepancies.
  • Operations Support - Manages a pipeline of active mortgage loans. Prioritizes loan actions based on projected closing dates and ensures loans close in a timely manner. Works with loan processor to meet expected closing dates for the customer.
  • Client Support - Provides client support throughout the underwriting process. Utilizes available resources to answer questions and develop alternatives. Remains abreast of investor loan programs, guidelines, policies and procedures to better assist clients. May provide guidance for associates on escalated or complex client inquiries.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree and 3 years of experience in Mortgage loan underwriting OR High School Diploma or GED and 7 years of experience in Mortgage loan underwriting

Preferred experience: FHA/VA loans

The base pay for this position is generally between $76,500 - $100,000. Actual starting base pay will be determined based on skills, experience, location, and other non-discriminatory factors permitted by law. For some roles, total compensation may also include variable incentives, bonuses, benefits, and/or other awards as outlined in the offer of employment.
