EDM is a leading engineering and technical consulting firm serving electric utilities across North America. We partner with utilities to improve the safety, reliability, and resiliency of the electric grid through innovative engineering, consulting, and technology solutions.


As wildfire risk continues to evolve, EDM is expanding our Utility Wildfire Mitigation practice. We are seeking an experienced leader to help shape the future of utility wildfire mitigation while leading high-impact consulting projects for some of the industry's largest utility clients.


Position Summary

The Senior Manager, Utility Wildfire Mitigation provides strategic leadership for EDM's growing wildfire mitigation consulting practice. This individual serves as a trusted advisor to utility clients while leading multidisciplinary teams responsible for developing and implementing wildfire mitigation programs, resiliency strategies, and regulatory compliance initiatives.


This role combines technical expertise, project leadership, client relationship management, and business development to deliver exceptional consulting services and expand EDM's wildfire mitigation practice.


Duties and Responsibilities

Consulting & Technical Leadership

  • Serve as a subject matter expert on utility wildfire mitigation programs and industry best practices.
  • Lead development of:
    • Wildfire Mitigation Plans (WMPs)
    • Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) plans
    • Ignition Management Plans (IMPs)
    • Resiliency strategies
    • Wildfire risk assessments
    • Gap analyses
  • Advise utility clients on wildfire risk reduction, resiliency planning, and regulatory compliance.
  • Monitor emerging technologies, regulations, and industry trends.
  • Represent EDM at industry conferences, utility meetings, and stakeholder engagements.
  • Mentor technical staff and provide leadership across project teams.


Project Leadership

  • Lead multidisciplinary consulting teams across multiple client engagements.
  • Manage project scope, schedule, budget, staffing, and deliverables.
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and meet EDM quality standards.
  • Develop executive presentations, technical reports, and client recommendations.
  • Establish project performance metrics and implement continuous improvement initiatives.


Business Development

  • Build and maintain long-term relationships with utility clients.
  • Support proposal development, RFQs, and RFP responses.
  • Identify opportunities to expand wildfire mitigation and related consulting services.
  • Collaborate with internal technical teams to develop innovative service offerings.


Technical Oversight

  • Review and approve technical reports, regulatory filings, and client deliverables.
  • Ensure technical information is communicated clearly to utility executives, regulators, and stakeholders.
  • Maintain high standards of technical quality and regulatory compliance.


Qualifications and Experience

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Forestry, Environmental Science, Natural Resources, Emergency Management, or a related technical discipline (or equivalent professional experience).
  • 10+ years of experience in utility wildfire mitigation, utility operations, resiliency, emergency management, risk management, or related fields.
  • Experience working directly for or consulting with electric utilities.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and implementing utility wildfire mitigation programs.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary consulting or technical teams.
  • Strong understanding of wildfire mitigation strategies, risk assessment methodologies, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and project management abilities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 and project management software.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a related technical field.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
  • Business development and client relationship management experience.
  • Experience presenting to utility executives, regulators, and public agencies.


Travel

  • Occasional travel required, including overnight travel.
  • Travel may include client meetings, conferences, project sites, and utility facilities.
