What is a remote trauma informed coach?

A Remote Trauma Informed Coach is a professional who provides coaching and support to clients who have experienced trauma, using a trauma-informed approach. They work with clients virtually, typically through video calls, phone calls, or online platforms, to help them process experiences, build resilience, and achieve personal or professional goals. Trauma-informed coaches are trained to recognize the impact of trauma and create a safe, supportive environment that avoids re-traumatization. They focus on empowering clients, promoting self-awareness, and fostering healing, often complementing other therapeutic or clinical interventions. Unlike therapists, trauma-informed coaches do not diagnose or treat mental health disorders but provide guidance, resources, and encouragement for personal growth.

How does a remote trauma informed coach typically collaborate with mental health professionals and clients in a virtual environment?

As a Remote Trauma Informed Coach, you often work closely with mental health professionals such as therapists or counselors to ensure clients receive comprehensive support. Collaboration usually involves regular communication, sharing observations (with client consent), and aligning on goals without crossing into clinical territory. Your daily responsibilities may include holding confidential video or phone sessions, creating individualized action plans, and providing resources or coping strategies tailored to each client. Building trust and maintaining clear boundaries are essential in this virtual setting, as is staying up-to-date with best practices in trauma-informed care.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote trauma informed coach, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Trauma Informed Coach, you need a background in psychology, counseling, or social work, along with specialized training or certification in trauma-informed practices. Familiarity with virtual coaching platforms, secure communication tools, and client management systems is typically expected. Exceptional listening, empathy, cultural sensitivity, and the ability to build trust remotely are standout soft skills in this role. These competencies are crucial for providing effective support, maintaining client safety, and facilitating healing in a remote environment.

Job description

Licensed Mental Health Therapist - Bilingual English/Spanish Strongly Preferred

Remote | Illinois License Required | Part-Time or Full-Time

Help families feel seen, heard, and understood - in the language that feels most natural to them.

At Backpack Healthcare, we believe every child and family deserves access to high-quality, culturally responsive mental health care. We provide virtual behavioral health services to children, teens, and young adults - covered by most insurance.

We're growing across Illinois, and Spanish-speaking families are looking for clinicians who understand their language, culture, and experiences.

If you're a bilingual therapist who believes culturally responsive care isn't an added benefit - it's essential to effective care - we'd love to have you join us.

What You'll Do

As a Licensed Mental Health Therapist, you'll provide compassionate, trauma-informed care through telehealth while partnering with families to support meaningful, lasting change.

You'll manage a caseload of 15-36 sessions per week, with the flexibility to choose part-time or full-time.

Your day-to-day will include:

  • Conducting clinical intakes and assessments
  • Developing client-centered, trauma-informed treatment plans
  • Providing individual, family, and group therapy via telehealth
  • Collaborating with therapists, PMHNPs, psychiatrists, and other members of our interdisciplinary team
  • Maintaining timely and accurate documentation in our EHR
  • Providing family education and care coordination
  • Delivering culturally responsive care that recognizes each family's unique needs and experiences

Scheduling: Most clinicians work weekday afternoons and evenings, typically 2:00-9:00 PM EST. Weekend availability is a plus.

What We Offer

We want our clinicians to feel supported, valued, and empowered to grow.

  • $45-$65 per billable hour, based on license level
  • Monthly bonus opportunities for eligible clinicians based on applicable productivity and performance criteria
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance for full-time employees
  • 401(k) with 3% company match
  • Paid time off
  • $300 annual CEU reimbursement
  • Free clinical supervision for LMSW/LPC roles
  • $25,000 company-paid life insurance
  • Employee Assistance Program
  • Clinical leadership opportunities, including our Residency & Fellowship Program
  • Fully remote work
Earn More with Monthly Bonuses

Eligible clinicians have the opportunity to earn an additional monthly performance-based bonus based on applicable productivity and performance criteria. It's another way Backpack recognizes clinicians who consistently deliver high-quality care while meeting established expectations.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for compassionate clinicians who are passionate about helping children, teens, and families thrive.

Required:

  • Active Illinois license: LPC, LCPC, LMSW, or LCSW
  • Experience working with children, adolescents, and families
  • Ability to work independently and effectively in a remote environment
  • Strong clinical judgment and communication skills
  • Commitment to trauma-informed care

Strongly Preferred:

  • Bilingual English/Spanish fluency
  • Experience providing culturally responsive care to Spanish-speaking families
Why Backpack Healthcare?

Since 2020, we've supported 12,000+ children and families through accessible, virtual behavioral healthcare.

And we're focused on outcomes: 78% of families report that their child is doing better after three months of care.

But our work isn't just about numbers.

It's about helping a child feel understood. Helping a parent feel supported. And making sure families don't have to choose between quality care and care that understands who they are.

When clinicians thrive, kids thrive. That's not just a tagline - it's how we build.

Ready to make an impact?

If you're passionate about accessible, culturally responsive mental health care - and especially if you can provide care in both English and Spanish - we'd love to meet you.
