Consultant Claims - CH08CE

The Claim Consultant is responsible for managing First Party Commercial Property and Inland Marine claims ranging from moderate to highly complex exposures, including claims with six-figure loss potential. This role requires expertise in investigating, evaluating, negotiating, and resolving claims, while coordinating independent adjusters, field resources, and subject matter experts as needed. The Claim Consultant will interpret and apply policy coverage, including Primary, Excess, and Quota Share coverages, and draft clear, comprehensive coverage correspondence. Success in this role requires strong technical claim handling skills, sound judgment, and the ability to effectively manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Claim File Management

  • Develop and execute claim strategies for investigation, evaluation, disposition, and settlement in accordance with company policies, regulatory requirements, and ethical standards.
  • Assess claim exposure, establish reserves, prioritize activities, manage timelines, and drive timely resolution of assigned claims.
  • Interpret and apply insurance coverage accurately while leveraging technical and jurisdictional expertise.
  • Utilize claim cost management strategies and resources consistent with company practices and procedures.
  • Identify and pursue mitigation, subrogation, and other recovery opportunities.
  • Communicate claim status, significant developments, and claim disposition to business partners and management as required.


Business Acumen and Technical Expertise

  • Investigate, evaluate, negotiate, and resolve highly complex claims, including complex coverage and compensability issues.
  • Analyze claim facts, medical information, and other relevant data to make sound coverage, liability, reserving, and settlement decisions.
  • Apply advanced knowledge of insurance principles, claim handling practices, and jurisdictional laws and regulations to effectively manage complex claims.
  • Exercise strong analytical, critical thinking, and judgment skills to identify risks, develop claim strategies, and drive appropriate claim outcomes.
  • Contribute to loss cost management through effective claim resolution strategies, identification of subrogation opportunities, and appropriate utilization of vendors and external resources.
  • Leverage national and jurisdictional expertise to manage claim exposures and achieve optimal claim outcomes.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience handling First Party Property and/or Inland Marine claims.
  • Knowledge of Department of Insurance claim handling requirements and applicable regulations across multiple jurisdictions.
  • State adjusting licenses as required.
  • Strong organizational, prioritization, and time-management skills with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Full-file claims handling experience.
  • Commercial Property, Inland Marine Transportation, Excess & Surplus (E&S), and Business Income claims experience.
  • Experience handling specialized risks, including Builder's Risk, Contractor's Equipment, Habitational, Binding Brokerage, Transportation, Fine Art, and Technology Equipment.
  • Xactimate experience, including estimating structural property damage.
  • Professional designations such as AIC, CCP, CPCU, or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex claims, apply sound judgment, and achieve strong claim outcomes.

WHAT ELSE CAN YOU TELL ME?

  • This role can have a Hybrid or Remote work arrangement. Candidates who live near one of our office locations (Hartford, CT, San Antonio, TX, Lake Mary, FL, Sunrise, FL, Scottsdale, AZ, Alpharetta, GA, and Naperville, IL) will have the expectation of working in an office 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday). Candidates who do not live near an office will have a remote work arrangement, with the expectation of coming into an office as business need arise.
  • For full-time, occasional, part-time or remote positions: (1) high speed broadband internet service is required, we do not recommend or support DSL, wireless, Wi-Fi, Hotspots, Fiber without a modem and Satellite; (2) Internet provider supplied modem/router/gateway is hardwired to the Hartford issued computer with an ethernet cable; and (3) minimum upload/download speeds of 10Mbps/75Mbps will be required. Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$84,800 - $127,200
