Job description

Job Title: Network Engineer

Location: Remote- Albany, NY

Engagement: 1 Year | 37.5 hours/week

Pay: $35-50/hr 

Position Overview
NYSERDA uses industry-standard datacenter and client-edge computer network equipment to deliver services to all NYSERDA computing resources. This position directly supports enterprise local- and wide-area network connectivity, providing critical infrastructure services to all employees, applications, and external partners.

Primary Responsibilities
Manage LAN/SDWAN and voice services across the enterprise. Develop, support, and maintain voice services to meet the needs of NYSERDA teams. Provide leadership and training to IT support staff on voice MACD tasks. Ensure support and maintenance contracts for software and hardware remain current. Design, implement, and document IP network architecture and services. Schedule and handle off-hours support and outages; leverage the CMDB for change management. Receive and respond to incoming calls, pages, and/or emails regarding IT infrastructure problems. Operate tools, components, and peripheral accessories. Follow established change management policies. Escalate outage situations to appropriate IT management. Document all network changes graphically and through the change management database (CMDB). Coordinate with server administrators at various cloud-based facilities on network services. Perform other duties as assigned that contribute to the key outcomes of the IT Operations team.

Required Qualifications & Skills
Expert-level knowledge of Cisco network and voice products. Expert-level technical knowledge of network services (DHCP, DNS, etc.). Ability to travel within New York State to perform physical work on network and voice infrastructure. Expert-level experience managing vendor relationships and vendor oversight. Demonstrated problem-solving ability; an entrepreneurial edge, resourcefulness, adaptability, and an instinct for surfacing value and pragmatic solutions. Skill in managing multiple diverse activities simultaneously, delivering on commitments, and operating with speed, accuracy, and strong judgment. Puts the team first; a track record of and natural predisposition toward investing in the success of colleagues. Relentless work ethic and resolute integrity. Specialized Skills
The ideal candidate is trained and experienced with Cisco and Extreme network equipment and the tools used to support those network environments. This position is directly responsible for designing, installing, and maintaining computer networks in new-construction spaces and supporting organizational growth.

Education & Certifications
Preferred: Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, or an Associate's Degree in a STEM field plus 1–2 years of relevant work experience.
