Your Role

Gensler's Houston Office is seeking a Technical Designer to join our Life Sciences team of design thinkers and doers who specialize in helping to tell stories and create experiences in the context of science and technical spaces. You will understand Science "from the inside" and believe that the planning and design of labs and other technical spaces can make a difference. As a Technical Designer, you will have experience with pre-design, programming & laboratory planning and knowledge of specialty architectural environments. You are a subject matter expert on the design and documentation of medium to large lab projects - which may include research and clinical labs,vivariaor other technical lab types.

What You Will Do

  • Assist in developing the strategy for producing the documents and identifies the sheets planned for each stage of the work; This includes defining how data will be organized into files and which elements will be incorporated into a Revit based set of construction documents

  • Technical resolution and coordination for a defined portion of a project

  • Monitors the design process from conceptual phase through construction administration, ensuring the design idea is consistent and well executed

  • Assists in planning, making adaptations and modifications to complete the working drawings

  • Receives mentorship and professional development across all platforms

  • Receives instruction on specific assignment objectives, complex features and possible solutions and independently performs assignments

  • Responsible for communication verbally or in writing with other disciplines, vendors, and contractors to ensure incorporation of all information into project requirements and provides support as necessary

  • Works collaboratively with the Project Leadership Team (i.e. Project Designer, Project Architect, Project Manager, Consultants, and Principal in Charge)

Your Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture from an accredited program

  • 5+ years of professional experience, including experience with Science Facilities projects

  • Knowledge of building codes, zoning, jurisdictional processes, building materials, specifications, and construction techniques

  • Experience in construction document preparation and field observation

  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop)

  • Proficient in Revit, AutoCAD, SketchUp and other 3D modeling software

  • LEED accreditation preferred
