Job Description

AECOM's Water Business Line is seeking an internationally recognized technical leader to serve as our Technical Leader – Hydraulic Structures.

This position will provide global technical leadership, advancing AECOM's excellence in hydraulic engineering, pumping systems, pumping system intakes, water conveyance infrastructure, and provide input into technical standards of practice.  The successful candidate will be recognized throughout the industry as a leading authority in the application of hydraulic science to complex water, wastewater, stormwater, and infrastructure systems.

The Technical Leader will serve as an advisor to project teams, clients, and executive leadership while representing AECOM in major pursuits, industry organizations, standards-development initiatives, and technical forums.  This individual will help shape industry best practices, advance innovation, strengthen AECOM's technical reputation, and mentor the next generation of engineers.

This role is flexible within North America and may be based in any AECOM office with hybrid and remote work arrangements available.

The job responsibilities of the position will include but are not limited to:

  • Serve as AECOM's senior corporate authority for hydraulic engineering, pumping system intakes, and related infrastructure systems.
  • Provide technical leadership and advisory support on the most complex and high-profile projects across AECOM's global water practice.
  • Lead independent technical reviews and participate in executive-level quality assurance and technical governance programs.
  • Serve as a senior technical advisor for planning, design, rehabilitation, and optimization of water, wastewater, stormwater, hydroelectric, industrial, and conveyance infrastructure systems.
  • Chair or serve on Corporate Technical Review Committees for major infrastructure projects.
  • Support major pursuits and strategic growth initiatives by developing technical approaches, participating in client presentations, interviews, and proposal development.
  • Represent AECOM with clients, industry organizations, regulatory agencies, academic institutions, and professional societies.
  • Advance AECOM's technical excellence through development of guidance documents, design practices, technical standards, and innovation initiatives.
  • Participate in AECOM’s Water Academy program for Pumping Systems
  • Participate in forensic evaluations, troubleshooting efforts, peer reviews, and risk mitigation studies involving hydraulic systems and pumping facilities.
  • Mentor technical leaders, project managers, and design professionals throughout the organization.
  • Foster collaboration between AECOM technical practices and support strategic investments in emerging technologies and research initiatives.
  • Publish technical papers, present at conferences, and maintain AECOM's leadership position within the engineering profession.
  • Maintain active engagement and leadership within national and international standards organizations and industry committees.
  • Travel to project sites and AECOM offices as required.
Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • BA/BS in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Hydraulic Engineering, Environmental Engineering or related field + 10 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
  • Progressively responsible experience in hydraulic engineering, pumping system intakes and water conveyance infrastructure
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) with ability to obtain Professional Engineer licensure in additional jurisdictions through comity/reciprocity
  • Demonstrated recognition as a national or international technical authority within the hydraulic engineering profession with a strong understanding of HI standards, AWWA standards, USBR guidance, USACE guidance, and related industry best practices
  • Extensive experience leading complex hydraulic analyses and physical hydraulic modeling studies
  • Proven ability to communicate complex technical concepts to clients, executive leadership, and multidisciplinary teams

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Masters Degree or Ph.D. in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Hydraulic Engineering, Environmental Engineering related field
  • 15+ years of progressively responsible experience in hydraulic engineering, pumping system intakes, and water conveyance infrastructure
  • 20+ years of overall industry experience.
  • Internationally recognized subject matter specialist in hydraulic engineering and pumping systems.
