Job description

NOTE:  THIS POSITION MAY BE CONSIDERED FOR REMOTE WORK WITHIN THE CONTIGUOUS UNITED STATES.  PREFERENCE IS FOR WORK TO BE PERFORMED IN EITHER OUR HOUSTON, TX OR CORVALLIS, OR OFFICES.  IF APPROVED FOR REMOTE WORK, SIGNIFICANT TRAVEL (UP TO 50%) WOULD BE REQUIRED TO SUPPORT BOTH OFFICE LOCATIONS.

POSITION SUMMARY:  Reporting to the Director, Project Management, this senior leader has end‑to‑end executes one or more high‑complexity programs that advance NuScale’s Small Modular Reactor (SMR) technology—from design integration through site deployment, construction, startup, and turnover to operations. Expected complexity of projects include non-recurring projects that involve significant FOAK activities, multi-year horizon for scope, intensive interfacing, high or unknown risk significance, and large commercial value all while working in an autonomous manner.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for project performance against the program baseline (scope, schedule, budget/EVMS plan, risk, and execution strategy) and maintain a comprehensive Project Management Plan aligned with NuScale standards.
  • Lead integrated planning across design, procurement, manufacturing, construction, commissioning, and operations turnover for nuclear facility deployment.
  • Establish and run governance routines (weekly/monthly status, executive reviews) emphasizing schedule/cost risk, earned value metrics, variance analysis, and corrective actions.
  • Drive proactive issue identification and resolution; escalate within NuScale as needed to protect critical path and licensing/regulatory milestones.
  • Prepare and present program status to various internal and external stakeholders.
  • Develop high‑performing, cross‑functional teams; align A/E firms, EPC partners, suppliers, and internal functions to an integrated plan of record.
  • Apply PMI/PMBOK processes and ANSI/EIA‑748‑C EVMS practices for integrated cost/schedule control, forecasting, and performance improvement.
  • Manage project risk (technical, regulatory, supply chain, construction, and startup) and execute mitigation plans that protect critical path and readiness.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Adaptability: Adapts to changes in the work environment, manages competing demands and is able to deal with frequent interruptions, changes, delays, or unexpected events.
  • Dependability: Consistently on time and at work, responds to management expectations and solicits feedback to improve performance.
  • Team Building: Capable of developing strong interpersonal networks and trust within the organization.
  • Safety Culture: Adheres to the NuScale Safety culture and is expected to model safe behavior and influence peers to meet high standards.
  • Quality Assurance: Commits to the understanding of the quality assurance regulations, standards and guidelines of 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, 10 CFR 21, and NQA-1.

MINIMUM SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND ABILITIES: 

  • Education: A minimum of a Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Construction Management is required.  An MBA is preferred.  Project Management Institute (PMI) or Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent certification program completion is required. 
  • Experience: Minimum of 15 years in project/program management or technical leadership within the nuclear sector or complex energy infrastructure, with demonstrated FOAK/NOAK deployment and multi‑discipline integration, required. Other required experience includes the following: 
    • Project Management experience in the nuclear industry, energy industry, power plant architect/engineering (A/E), power plant engineering procurement construction (EPC), or US Department of Energy nuclear projects.
    • Proven leadership of licensed nuclear design projects; working knowledge of Pressurized Water Reactor (PWR) designs and NSSS interfaces.
    • Deep expertise in project management concepts, schedule logic, estimating, and integrated schedule/cost control; applied PMI PMBOK and EVMS practices
    • Expertise in technical baselines, structured decision‑making, and formal design control practices.
    • Ability to integrate nuclear, mechanical, electrical, I&C, and civil/structural systems into a cohesive plant product, and manage maturity from conceptual design through operations turnover.
    • Demonstrated success delivering nuclear design, construction, and commissioning programs with stringent regulatory interfaces.
    • Previous experience setting visions at the senior/executive level, and driving alignment across complex stakeholder networks.
  • Industry Requirements: Eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810.

Pay and Benefits: 

The target base salary range for this position is $150,537 - $181,683 annually.  The full base salary range is $134,964 - $211,098 annually.
