Remote Technical Product Manager information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote technical product manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Technical Product Manager, you need a solid background in product management, technical proficiency (often with a degree in computer science or related field), and experience guiding products from concept to launch. Familiarity with tools like Jira, Trello, Agile methodologies, and sometimes certifications like Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) are commonly expected. Exceptional communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills help you collaborate effectively with distributed teams and stakeholders. These abilities ensure seamless project execution, alignment with business goals, and successful product outcomes in a remote work environment.

What is a remote technical product manager?

A Remote Technical Product Manager is a professional who oversees the development and success of technology-driven products while working from a location outside the traditional office environment. They are responsible for defining product requirements, collaborating with engineering and cross-functional teams, and ensuring that the product meets user needs and business goals. Their technical background enables them to bridge the gap between technical teams and stakeholders, facilitating clear communication and efficient decision-making. Remote Technical Product Managers leverage digital tools to coordinate work, manage timelines, and keep everyone aligned, regardless of where team members are located.

The Remote Technical Product Manager focuses on technical aspects, working closely with engineering teams to develop and deliver products. The Remote Product Owner primarily manages the product backlog and ensures the development aligns with business goals. While both roles require product management skills, the Technical Product Manager emphasizes technical knowledge, whereas the Product Owner concentrates on stakeholder communication and backlog prioritization.

How do remote technical product managers effectively coordinate with cross-functional teams across different time zones?

Remote Technical Product Managers often work with globally distributed teams, which can present challenges in communication and collaboration. To address this, they typically leverage a combination of asynchronous tools (like project management software and shared documentation) and schedule regular check-ins that accommodate overlapping work hours. Building strong relationships through clear communication and setting expectations around availability helps ensure that project milestones are met. Additionally, successful remote PMs proactively share updates and encourage feedback to keep everyone aligned, despite geographic separation.

Job description

Lucid Software is the leader in visual collaboration, helping teams see and build the future from idea to reality. Our products, business, and workplace culture have received numerous awards, such as being named to the Forbes Cloud 100 and a Fortune Best Workplace in Technology. Lucid is a hybrid workplace, allowing employees to work remotely, from one of our offices, or a combination of the two depending on the needs of the role and team. At Lucid, we hold true to our core values of teamwork over ego, innovation in everything we do, individual empowerment, initiative, and ownership, and passion and excellence in every area. We value diversity and are dedicated to creating an environment that is respectful and inclusive for everyone.

We are looking for an impact-oriented Sr. Product Manager to bridge the gap between complex data and human collaboration. You'll join a high-caliber squad of designers and engineers building everything from tailored, persona-based solutions to the scalable infrastructure that powers them-including intelligent features that leverage AI. We aren't just looking for a "feature-shipper"; we need a strategic partner who thrives on technical complexity and maintains a relentless obsession with elegant user experiences. If you are a natural mentor who excels at distilling the ambiguity of a rapidly evolving platform into a clear vision, join us-let's build the future of visual collaboration together.

Responsibilities:

  • Partner with UX, Engineering, Analytics, Marketing, Sales, and other Product teams to champion the customer and deliver high-impact product experiences.
  • Conduct effective qualitative and quantitative research to develop deep expertise in how customers think, collaborate, and solve complex problems.
  • Lead products and capabilities from initial discovery and validation through definition, development, launch, analysis, and continuous iteration.
  • Rapidly test assumptions and de-risk new opportunities through prototypes, experiments, customer research, data analysis, and iterative learning.
  • Ruthlessly prioritize roadmaps and clearly communicate strategic trade-offs based on customer value, business impact, technical feasibility, and measurable outcomes.
  • Identify opportunities where AI, intelligent automation, and emerging technologies can meaningfully improve customer outcomes, while recognizing when more traditional product approaches are the better solution.
  • Define and move key customer and business metrics through a disciplined approach to product optimization, experimentation, and data analysis.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience and 5+ years of software Product Management experience, with a proven track record of building successful B2B SaaS products and driving meaningful business outcomes.
  • Create clarity and momentum in ambiguous environments by identifying the decisions that matter most, making sound trade-offs with the best available information, and enabling teams to learn and move quickly without waiting for perfect certainty.
  • Strong skills in de-risking initiatives through customer research, rapid prototyping, experimentation, and creative lean-learning methodologies.
  • Exceptional product judgment, with the ability to identify important customer problems, evaluate emerging opportunities, and balance customer needs, business objectives, and technical constraints.
  • Experience working closely with Engineering and UX to navigate technical complexity and translate complicated workflows into simple, intuitive, and polished experiences.
  • Practical understanding of modern AI capabilities and limitations, including generative AI, large language models, agentic workflows, retrieval-based systems, and AI evaluation approaches.
  • Ability to identify where AI can create meaningful customer value, assess the risks and trade-offs of AI-powered experiences, and collaborate effectively with Engineering and Data Science partners.
  • A proactive approach to seeking feedback, learning quickly, navigating emerging technologies, and iterating based on data, customer insights, and team input.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience developing or launching products that incorporate generative AI, intelligent automation, agentic workflows, or other AI-powered capabilities.
  • Experience leading new product discovery, rapid prototyping, or innovation initiatives in ambiguous and fast-moving environments.
  • A high bar for product polish and a keen eye for how usability, interaction design, and brand consistency drive customer trust and engagement.
  • Experience designing and interpreting product experiments, including A/B tests, multivariate tests, prototypes, and other methods for validating customer and business impact.
  • Comfort navigating complex quantitative and qualitative data to uncover behavioral insights and inform product strategy and prioritization.
  • Experience developing platform capabilities, shared services, or foundational infrastructure used by multiple products or product teams.
  • Experience mentoring Product Managers or helping teams improve product discovery, experimentation, evaluation, or product development practices.
