Remote Tech Startup information

What is a remote tech startup?

A remote tech startup is a new technology-based company that operates with a distributed team, meaning employees work from various locations rather than a centralized office. These startups leverage digital tools and platforms to collaborate, communicate, and build products or services. Remote tech startups often benefit from accessing a global talent pool, reducing overhead costs, and offering flexible work arrangements. However, they also face challenges such as coordinating across time zones and maintaining team cohesion.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive at a remote tech startup, and why are they important?

To thrive at a remote tech startup, you need strong technical expertise relevant to your role (such as software development, product management, or design), problem-solving abilities, and experience working in agile or fast-paced environments. Familiarity with collaboration tools like Slack, GitHub, Jira, and cloud-based platforms, as well as remote work best practices, is typically expected. Outstanding self-motivation, adaptability, proactive communication, and time-management skills set top performers apart in remote settings. These skills are crucial for delivering results, fostering innovation, and maintaining alignment within distributed teams.

What are the unique challenges of working at a remote tech startup, and how can I prepare for them?

Working at a remote tech startup often means adapting to fast-paced changes, collaborating across time zones, and staying self-motivated without direct supervision. Communication is key, as teams rely heavily on digital tools to stay connected and aligned on goals. To succeed, it's important to be proactive in seeking feedback, comfortable with ambiguity, and disciplined in managing your time. Embracing flexibility and being open to learning new technologies or processes will help you thrive in this dynamic environment.

Job description

Type: Full-time

Compensation: $65,000 - $95,000 USD OTE - Dependent on experience

Work: Fully Remote - must be based in Philadelphia, PA

About us:

At Zen, we’re changing how schools find the staff needed for kids to thrive. There is a severe shortage of teachers and the support staff needed to support all children, accelerated by the pandemic. Millions of students experience understaffed classrooms and specialist programs. Schools looking to fill these roles with traditional agencies spend billions of dollars in high agency markups, which further hampers budgets and leads to more problems down the line.

That’s why we’ve developed an alternative solution. Our online platform provides schools instant access to hundreds of fully vetted teachers and support staff. Since our inception in 2017, we've saved schools over $30 million globally, reinvesting that money back into school budgets and increasing teachers’ pay.

The opportunity:

Join an ed-tech startup that's reshaping education. This is your chance to be at the forefront of change, where innovation meets impact. We're not just selling a product – we're transforming the way schools operate, filling classrooms with the staff needed for kids to thrive and saving the education system millions of dollars along the way.

We’re also growing at a rapid pace. This type of growth allows you to grow your impact and your career, while making a tangible difference in the education sector.

We're looking for enthusiastic, mission-driven people who fit our values and are passionate about what we do. You’re encouraged to apply even if your experience doesn't exactly match the job description, some of Zen’s highest performing sales people started their career in sales as a Business Development Rep!

What you'll be doing:

  • Selling Zen’s service offerings to charter and district leaders in your assigned territory

  • Owning the full cycle sales process: from outbound calling, to pipeline generation, to demo delivery, to closing deals

  • Collaborating with our School Success team to onboard new charter schools and school districts

  • Collaborate with the school success, operations, and technology teams to continuously improve our ability to deliver value to schools

  • Opportunities to travel to US states for conferences, events and school meetings

  • Embracing the dynamic nature of startup life, where no two weeks are the same, and a willingness to dive in and get the job done is essential.

  •

Who we are looking for:

  • You have a strong desire to break into a sales career within the tech space.

  • You bring enthusiasm and an eagerness to learn. We'll provide all the training and tools you need to succeed.

  • A passionate and motivated team player who thrives in a collaborative environment; your contributions are valued.

  • You have a growth mindset and are dedicated to growing your skills as a professional.

  • Experience in education as either an educator or selling to K-12 stakeholders is a huge plus.

What’s in it for you?

  • Equity compensation

  • Role includes bonus

  • 18 Paid Vacation Days and 10 Paid Company Holidays

  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance

  • 401(k) retirement plan with no match
  • Sick leave

  • Paid biweekly

Ready to Apply

We welcome applicants with diverse backgrounds, and different experiences and perspectives - just like the staff who teach through Zen and the children at the schools we work with. We believe in hiring the best people from the widest pool and creating an inclusive atmosphere with a culture where people’s voices are heard, and all our team can look forward to coming to work.

We value and respect all differences in all people (seen and unseen). We believe in an environment with equal access to career development opportunities and actively encourage applications from BAME candidates.
If you require any reasonable adjustments during your interview process with us, please do let us know.

Due to the high volume of applications, we regret that we are unable to provide individual feedback on initial submissions.
