A Remote Tax Resolution job involves assisting clients with tax issues, such as audits, back taxes, and payment plans, while working remotely. Tax professionals in this role communicate with clients and tax authorities via phone, email, or virtual meetings to negotiate settlements and ensure compliance. They analyze financial documents, prepare necessary forms, and develop strategies to resolve tax debt efficiently. This role typically requires expertise in tax laws, IRS procedures, and strong problem-solving skills.

What are some typical challenges faced in a remote tax resolution role, and how are they addressed?

Working in remote tax resolution, you may encounter challenges such as communicating complex tax issues over phone or video, handling sensitive information securely, and managing multiple client cases simultaneously. To address these challenges, companies provide training on secure digital document handling, use encrypted communication platforms, and maintain robust case management systems. Team meetings and regular check-ins help maintain collaboration and ensure consistent support from colleagues and managers. This structure enables you to efficiently resolve client issues while maintaining high standards of accuracy and compliance.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the remote tax resolution position, and why are they important?

To thrive in Remote Tax Resolution, you need a solid grasp of tax laws, IRS procedures, and client account analysis, typically supported by experience in tax preparation or a related field. Familiarity with tax software (such as UltraTax, ProSeries, or CCH Axcess) and relevant certifications like Enrolled Agent (EA) or CPA are highly beneficial. Excellent communication, problem-solving, and empathy are essential soft skills, allowing you to negotiate with tax authorities and guide clients through stressful situations. These abilities are crucial for effectively resolving tax issues and building trust with clients in a fully remote environment.

Job description

Your Future Team
Williams & Nulle is a well-established CPA firm founded in 1952, with a long-standing presence in Northwest Washington and a strong reputation for trusted, relationship-driven client service. For decades, the firm has supported individuals, families, and closely held businesses with comprehensive tax, accounting, and advisory services, taking a practical and personalized approach to each client's unique needs.
The firm is known for its hands-on service model, working closely with business owners and individuals on tax compliance and planning, financial reporting, business consulting, and long-term financial strategy. You will guide and mentor staff, improve tax processes, and deliver thoughtful, personalized tax solutions. Your ability to balance strategic oversight with direct client service will be essential as you help drive high-quality outcomes and strengthen long-term client relationships.

  • Track changes in tax legislation and communicate implications to clients and internal teams
  • Manage federal and state tax audits, acting as the primary liaison with taxing authorities and guiding clients through resolution and appeals
  • Oversee income tax provisions under ASC 740, including deferred taxes, uncertain tax positions, and audit coordination
  • Identify and implement process improvements and leverage tax technology to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and data management

What You'll Bring

  • Strong proficiency with tax preparation software, such as CCH, Thomson Reuters, or GoSystem
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, with advanced Excel skills preferred
  • Experience with tax research platforms, workflow management systems, and financial statement review highly desirable
