Key Responsibilities
Migration & Development
• Migrates existing Looker Pro dashboards, reports, and Looks to Tableau Desktop/Server/Online.
• Re-create LookML models, dimensions, and measures in Tableau using calculated fields, data sources, and extracts.
• Ensure 1:1 parity of KPIs, metrics, and visualizations between Looker Pro and Tableau.
• Develop complex Tableau dashboards with interactivity - filters, parameters, drill-downs, and actions.
• Convert Looker Explore queries into optimized Tableau data connections and custom SQL.
Data & Analytics
• Connect Tableau to various data sources including cloud warehouses (BigQuery, Snowflake, Redshift, etc.).
• Design and optimize data extracts and live connections for performance.
• Build and maintain reusable data sources, calculated fields, and Tableau Prep flows.
• Validate migrated reports against source data to ensure accuracy and consistency.
Stakeholder Collaboration
• Collaborate with business teams to understand reporting requirements and translate them into Tableau solutions.
• Conduct demos and training sessions to help end-users adopt Tableau post-migration.
• Document migration mappings, data lineage, and Tableau best practices.
• Communicate migration progress, blockers, and timelines to project stakeholders.
Governance & Best Practices
• Establish and follow Tableau development standards, naming conventions, and version control practices.
• Manage Tableau Server/Online: publish workbooks, manage permissions, user groups, and schedules.
• Ensure report performance through query optimization and efficient dashboard design.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Tableau (Expert Level - Must Have)
• 5+ years of hands-on experience with Tableau Desktop, Tableau Server, or Tableau Online.
• Proficiency in building complex dashboards with calculated fields, LOD expressions, table calculations, and parameters.
• Strong knowledge of Tableau data connections - live, extract, published data sources.
• Experience with Tableau Prep Builder for data transformation and cleaning.
• Familiarity with Tableau REST API and admin capabilities.
• Ability to optimize dashboards for performance - extract optimization, query reduction, layout best practices.
Looker Pro (Working Knowledge - Must Have)
• Solid understanding of Looker Pro's interface, Explores, Looks, and Dashboards.
• Ability to read and interpret LookML - models, views, dimensions, measures, and explores.
• Experience running Looker queries, extracting data, and analyzing existing report logic.
• Understanding of Looker's data modeling concepts to accurately map them to Tableau equivalents.
Technical Skills
• Strong SQL skills - writing complex queries, CTEs, window functions, and query optimization.
• Experience with cloud data warehouses: BigQuery, Snowflake, Redshift, or Azure Synapse.
• Working knowledge of data modeling concepts (star schema, data marts, aggregations).
• Familiarity with Git or version control for managing workbook/code changes.
Preferred / Nice-to-Have Qualifications
• Tableau Desktop Specialist or Tableau Certified Data Analyst certification.
