Job description

Department: Strategy & Community Engagement

Reports To: Director of Data Systems & Programs

Location: Remote / Hybrid

Type: Internship (Unpaid / OPT-Eligible)

Duration: 3-12 months (Flexible)

Position Overview

We are seeking a mission-driven Community Data & Resource Analyst to assist in the collection, organization, and analysis of local community resource data that supports underserved individuals and families. This internship is designed also for international students in the U.S. on F-1 visas eligible for OPT (Optional Practical Training).

The Analyst will play a key role in researching, verifying, and updating our internal Community Resource Directory, which serves as a bridge between community members and life-sustaining services such as food, housing, health care, legal aid, and job training.

Key Responsibilities

Community Resource Collection

Identify, research, and collect data on local service providers (nonprofits, faith-based groups, government agencies, etc.)

Use reliable sources such as 211 directories, government databases, open data portals, and partner networks to locate new or existing resources.

Conduct direct outreach (calls/emails) to verify hours, eligibility, and service offerings.

Data Organization & Entry

Input collected information into a structured database or spreadsheet using standardized fields.

Classify resources by service type (e.g., food, housing, mental health), population served, region, and access level.

Tag and track new, verified, and outdated entries.

Data Management & Reporting

Maintain up-to-date and accurate records in the organization’s internal tools or CRM (e.g., Airtable, Google Sheets).

Generate summary reports or maps showing resource distribution, gaps, and high-need areas.

Assist with data cleaning, deduplication, and formatting for public dashboards or internal reports.

Collaboration & Communication

Coordinate with program staff and community partners to align data with outreach efforts and referrals.

Participate in internal meetings to provide data insights and share collection progress.

Maintain confidentiality and ethical standards when handling contact or service data.

Required Qualifications

Eligible for OPT through a U.S.-based college or university

Pursuing or recently completed a degree in Data Science, Public Health, Social Work, Urban Planning, Information Systems, or related fields

Strong research skills and attention to detail

Comfortable using tools like Google Sheets, Excel, Airtable, or CRMs

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks

Preferred Skills

Familiarity with open data or community mapping

Knowledge of Python, or data cleaning tools (e.g., Pandas, OpenRefine)

Experience working or volunteering with nonprofits or public service organizations

Interest in equity, access, and social impact
