Remote Supply Chain Rotational Program information

What is a remote supply chain rotational program?

A Remote Supply Chain Rotational Program is a structured entry-level opportunity where participants work remotely and rotate through various departments within a company's supply chain, such as procurement, logistics, inventory management, and planning. The goal is to provide broad exposure to different functions, helping participants gain a comprehensive understanding of the supply chain field. Typically designed for recent graduates, these programs last from 12 to 24 months and often lead to full-time positions upon completion. Remote participation allows for flexibility and access to global teams, making it an attractive option for those seeking diverse experiences in supply chain management.

What types of projects or tasks can participants expect to work on during a remote supply chain rotational program?

Participants in a Remote Supply Chain Rotational Program typically engage in diverse projects across multiple supply chain functions, such as procurement, logistics, inventory management, and demand planning. Assignments may include analyzing supplier performance, optimizing transportation routes, supporting digital transformation initiatives, or managing inventory levels. Since the program is remote, collaboration often takes place through virtual meetings and shared digital platforms, fostering strong communication and project management skills. This structure enables participants to gain a comprehensive understanding of the supply chain while building relationships with cross-functional teams.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in a remote supply chain rotational program, and why are they important?

To thrive in a Remote Supply Chain Rotational Program, you need a solid understanding of supply chain principles, analytical thinking, and a relevant degree such as business, logistics, or engineering. Familiarity with ERP systems like SAP, data analysis tools such as Excel or Tableau, and any supply chain certifications (e.g., APICS CPIM) are highly beneficial. Strong communication, adaptability, and problem-solving skills are essential for collaborating remotely and navigating diverse supply chain functions. These skills and qualifications are crucial for effectively managing supply chain processes, adapting to different roles, and driving improvements in a dynamic, distributed environment.

This role supports advanced AI evaluation work focused on realistic large-scale supply chain scenarios. Selected experts will design complex operational tasks, develop reference outputs, and create evaluation rubrics that reflect how experienced supply chain leaders approach sourcing, planning, logistics, supplier risk, and network optimisation.
Key Responsibilities

  • Create tasks covering vendor evaluation, contract considerations, sourcing strategy, and procurement decisions
  • Assess supplier proposals and sourcing options for cost, risk, quality, and operational fit
  • Develop reference sourcing plans and procurement recommendations
  • Apply senior-level judgement to complex vendor and supplier-management scenarios
Demand Planning & Inventory Optimisation
  • Design tasks involving demand forecasting, inventory planning, and replenishment strategy
  • Evaluate forecasting assumptions, service levels, safety stock, and inventory trade-offs
  • Develop scenarios involving demand variability and supply constraints
  • Assess inventory strategies for operational efficiency and customer-service impact
  • Produce reference planning analyses and recommendations
Logistics & Distribution Networks
  • Create scenarios involving transportation, warehousing, distribution, and network design
  • Evaluate logistics strategies across complex supply chain networks
  • Develop tasks involving TMS, WMS, and enterprise distribution workflows
  • Assess network-design decisions for cost, resilience, and service performance
  • Produce reference logistics and distribution strategies
Supplier Risk & Resilience
  • Develop scenarios involving supplier risk, disruption management, and multi-tier supply networks
  • Assess concentration risk, supplier dependencies, geopolitical exposure, and continuity planning
  • Apply risk-adjusted sourcing methodologies to complex operational situations
  • Evaluate mitigation strategies and alternative sourcing approaches
  • Produce reference supplier-risk assessments and contingency plans
S&OP & Enterprise Planning
  • Create tasks involving Sales and Operations Planning and cross-functional supply chain decision-making
  • Evaluate trade-offs between demand, supply, inventory, capacity, and financial objectives
  • Develop scenarios involving executive planning cycles and operational alignment

  • Develop scenarios involving SAP, Oracle SCM, Blue Yonder, Kinaxis, and comparable enterprise platforms
  • Apply familiarity with TMS, WMS, planning, and procurement systems
  • Structure operational and supply chain data into clear professional outputs

AI Evaluation & Rubric Development
  • Design expert-level evaluation tasks across supply chain and procurement workflows
  • Draft reference outputs demonstrating authentic professional judgement
  • Develop rubrics that distinguish experienced supply chain reasoning from generic textbook or framework-based responses
  • Review AI-generated outputs for operational accuracy, practicality, and strategic relevance
  • Identify weak assumptions, incomplete analyses, and unrealistic recommendations
  • Provide clear written rationale supporting evaluation decisions
Ideal Profile
  • 5+ years of professional experience in supply chain, procurement, logistics, demand planning, inventory management, or a closely related field
  • Experience within a major manufacturer, retailer, logistics provider, or large enterprise supply chain organisation
  • Direct ownership of supplier relationships, procurement programmes, distribution networks, inventory planning, or supply chain operations
  • Strong understanding of sourcing, procurement, demand planning, logistics, supplier risk, and S&OP
  • Familiarity with enterprise platforms such as SAP, Oracle SCM, Blue Yonder, Kinaxis, TMS, WMS, or comparable tools
  • Experience applying Lean, Six Sigma, network optimisation, or related operational methodologies
  • Strong analytical judgement and ability to evaluate complex supply chain trade-offs
  • Ability to communicate operational and strategic reasoning clearly and precisely in writing
  • Experience developing supply chain training materials, evaluation rubrics, sourcing documentation, or operational guidance is advantageous
Engagement Details
  • Part-time independent contractor engagement
  • Fully remote
  • Flexible scheduling based on project requirements
  • Compensation: $50-$60/hour
  • Projects may be extended, shortened, or concluded based on project needs and performance
