The successful engineer will complete projects that support our large utility customer, with minimal direction. The engineer will work with in-house and client engineers, and graphics technicians. The Lead Engineer will oversee a small department of Transmission Line Engineers and will also coordinate and conduct training to lower-level engineers.Primary Duties and ResponsibilitiesResponsible for the engineering and design activities related to Transmission Line Engineering such as engineering analysis and design, route selection, material acquisition, structural and foundation design, and project and construction managementPrepare project construction documents such as plan and profile drawings; design drawings; engineering, material, and construction specifications; project schedules and bills of materialDevelop project design alternatives and corresponding cost estimatesDesign new transmission line facilities with voltages ranging between 69 kV and 765 kVUtilize PLS-CADD to model transmission line design projects.Attend contractor bid and construction meetings and assist in ensuring that work activities are performed safely and in accordance with plans and established schedules, and in accordance with AEP policies, rules and standards, and in compliance with external regulationsCoordinate effectively with governmental and regulatory agencies and contractorsProvide leadership to facilitate project completion, to train and mentor other engineers, and to develop measurable work area goals and objectivesFunction as an engineering project lead for transmission projectsLead, facilitate, and coordinate work activities of others within the work group, team, department, or external entities to complete transmission projectsProvide training and guidance to lower-level employeesIdentify and initiate corrective action when transmission line project objectives are not being metInterpret codes and regulations and develop standards for construction projectsPromote engineering professionalism and standardsDevelop, recommend, and implement plans by establishing goals, objectives, and requirements that include all scheduling, resources and information for complex engineeringPosition will require occasional travel for site visitsEducation and Experience RequirementsBachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or Electrical Engineering (ABET)Master's Degree in Civil Engineering or Electrical Engineering (ABET) will count toward years of experienceA PE License is requiredJob Type & LocationThis is a Permanent position based out of Birmingham, AL.Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $64.90 - $76.92/hr.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
