The Opportunity

The Opportunity

As a Strategy Director you are responsible for providing strategic leadership to help lead and influence a toward its next phase of profitable growth. Will lead internal consulting projects working collaboratively with leadership to make key strategic decisions in the areas of strategy development, growth strategy, and business transformation. Will play a leadership role in supporting the development and communication of the three-year strategic plan. Develop key relationships with leaders and executives across the organization and communicate with senior leadership to influence and align the organization into action.

  • Extensive business planning consultation:This involves a proven track record in developing both short-term and long-term business strategies. The ability to lead the development of business strategy for these goals is a key requirement.
  • Internal consulting project leadership:Experience leading projects where you collaborate directly with senior executives to define business opportunities and structure strategic engagement plans is highly valued. This includes leading cross-functional teams to solve complex business problems.
  • Strategic thought partnership:The ability to act as a strategic thought partner, anticipate future trends, and proactively develop innovative visions for organizational growth is a significant differentiator.
  • Client/customer engagement:Extensive experience working with clients or customers to identify business issues and develop strategic direction based on gathered insights is essential.
  • Influencing senior executives:The capacity to influence and manage communication with senior executives, providing clear updates on status, progress, strategies, and roadmaps is crucial.

We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week. This position can be based in one of the following locations: San Antonio, TX, Plano, TX, and Charlotte, NC.

Relocation assistance is not available for this position.

What you'll do:

  • Develop long-term vision and direction: Create and communicate a clear vision for the organization's future growth and success. This may involve facilitating market research and analysis, identifying key trends and opportunities, and setting strategic goals and objectives.
  • Communicate and align strategy: Effectively communicate the organization's strategy to senior management, employees, and other stakeholders to ensure that all levels of the organization are aligned with and working towards the same goals. Support the design, development, and facilitation of strategy off-sites.
  • Lead internal consulting projects: Identify and frame strategic opportunities and issues faced by the organization. Draft project proposals, design work plans, and conduct or oversee key pieces of analysis to deliver strategic insights and recommendations. Create compelling storylines that clearly articulate findings, insights, and recommendations. Influence and drive stakeholder alignment and execution.
  • Monitor and assess external trends: Conduct or oversee industry and competitive research to identify potential strategic opportunities and threats. Communicate insights and recommendations to leadership, facilitating alignment on responsive actions to be taken.
  • Lead strategic planning: Play a leadership role in the development and communication of the organization's three-year strategic plan.
  • Monitor and report on progress: Monitor the progress of the organization's strategic initiatives and report on results to senior management and other stakeholders. Adjust the strategy as needed based on changing market conditions or other factors.
  • Mentor and develop teammates: Support the development and coaching of junior teammates.
  • Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedure

What you Have

  • Bachelor's Degree in a Business, Engineering or Science discipline; OR 4 years of related experience (in addition to the minimum years of experience required) may be substituted in lieu of degree.
  • 8 years of strategy consulting, corporate or business unit strategy or relevant work experience; or an Advanced Degree in Business or STEM and 6 years strategy consulting, corporate or business unit strategy or relevant work experience.
  • Strong critical thinking skills and inquisitive mindset, with ability to elevate thinking and apply judgment to how components fit into the broader picture.
  • Proven track record in project management.
  • Proven track record of leveraging experience and analysis to influence business decisions.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Strong quantitative, analytical, and written and oral communication skills

What sets you apart:

  • Experience in Property & Casualty (P&C) insurance Or life insurance is preferred, but not required
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic planning and consulting, ideally gained within a large, reputable consulting firm.
  • MBA from a top business school is strongly preferred, or an equivalent combination of advanced education and extensive, relevant experience is required.
  • Ability to analyze complex, ambiguous business problems, define strategic direction, and lead the development and implementation of clear, actionable, and impactful strategic recommendations.
  • Proficiency in leveraging advanced data analytics and market insights to drive strategic decision-making and identify significant growth opportunities.
  • Exceptional communication, influencing, and executive presence skills, with a proven ability to articulate complex strategies and align senior leadership and diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and thrive in high-pressure, ambiguous environments, driving strategic execution and managing multiple high-stakes initiatives with significant organizational impact.

Compensation range: The salary range for this position is: $143,320 - $273,930.

Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location.

Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
