Riverside Research is an independent National Security Nonprofit dedicated to research and development in the national interest. We provide high-end technical services, research and development, and prototype solutions to some of the countrys most challenging technical problems.

Riverside Research is seeking a highly skilled Subject Matter Expert Overhead Persistent Infrared (OPIR) Research Engineer to support the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency involving infrared sensing, space-based missile warning systems, data exploitation, and algorithm development. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in EO/IR systems, infrared phenomenology, OPIR data analysis, and software development for remote sensing.

This role requires proven experience working with complex sensor systems, developing and testing new analysis capabilities, and collaborating with government, industry, and research partners on next-generation sensing technologies.


  • Lead prototyping, development, and support transition of advanced OPIR data processing algorithms
  • Evaluate and troubleshoot data processing, identify anomalies, and coordinate remediation strategies
  • Support development of white papers, technical documentation, and transition plans
  • Collaborate with research organizations, DoD stakeholders, and external agencies

Required Qualifications

  • Active TS/SCI clearance
  • Advanced understanding of EO/IR signal processing, AI/ML processing, and target system phenomenology
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Computer Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, or related technical field
  • 15+ years of experience in EO/IR algorithm development
  • Detailed experience with OPIR data formats and processing pipelines
  • Advanced Python development skills
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to diagnose sensor performance, data anomalies, and software issues

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with OPIR analysis
  • Masterโ€™s degree in Computer Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, or related technical field
  • Experience collaborating with NGA, NASIC or other intelligence community organizations

$175,000- $210,000 This represents the typical compensation range for this position based on experience, location and other factors.
