Position Purpose:
Assist in the production of assigned store floor design plans of basic complexity with prototypical accuracy under direct supervision. Development of plans should reflect basic code compliance, adherence to budget requirements (for remodels) and adherence to PETCO's visual merchandising standards. Project completion should meet scheduled production goals.
Essential Job Functions
The incumbent must be able to perform all of the following duties and responsibilities with or without a reasonable accommodation under direct supervision.
Assist in Floor Plan Development:
  • Assists with block plans to better understand preferred layout and flow. b. Produce assigned floor plans that meet PETCO's prototype standards and merchandise category requirements for new, remodel and acquisition stores in accordance with schedule deadlines using AutoCad.
  • Collaborate with Space Optimization and Analysis team to incorporate their store specific merchandise recommendations into the store design. Validate recommendations are correct with Senior Store Designer.
  • Ensure store plans are in compliance with federal, state and local regulations (ADA, fire, basic construction codes, etc.).
  • Analyze layouts for potential problems in store plans and develop recommendations for resolution.
  • Verify scopes and adhere to budget constraints for remodels and small project stores.
  • Create revisions to preliminary plans as necessary to get approval from internal stakeholders and distribute to architects/engineers and internal teams.
  • Prepare and present prototypical store design layouts or concepts to department supervisor and / or manager.
  • Review Construction Documents prepared by Architects (25%, 98%) to ensure they meet design intent. Coordinate any revisions and / or addendums.
  • Perform store specific quantifications for fixtures in Excel
  • Assist project lead on keeping a current, accurate and up-to-date project file for both drawings and all correspondence.
  • Support Store Designers with any maintenance, roll-outs or field requests that are relevant to Store Design.
  • Support Store Designers with store specific rollouts and initiatives that impact store specific fixture plans.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:
  • Mentored by Senior Designer who will help oversee and guide planner to understand all functions of their job.
  • Work effectively with a cross-functional team.
  • Provide assistance and problem resolution to Operations Coordinators, Construction Project Managers and General Contractors to ensure accuracy of design and company standards.
  • Attend and actively participate in meetings with store operations, merchandising, marketing, construction and real estate.

Other duties and responsibilities:
  • Interact professionally and effectively through verbal and written communication with all professional contacts with emphasis on company interests
  • Follow scheduled assignments as directed by supervisor to meet established project deadlines.
  • Travel to store locations as necessary.
  • Perform special projects as assigned.

Nature of Supervision
Direction will be provided on all tasks to be performed, but store design concepts should be understood and implemented using independent discretion and in accordance with PETCO's design standards.

The Store Planner will assist in creating fixture plans that will improve the customer shopping experience. They will coordinate their tasks for assigned projects and ensure they are executed on time per the department schedules.

Education/Experience
• Bachelor's Degree in Interior Design or Architecture is preferred.
• Solid understanding of store design principles and retail operations are necessary.
• Minimum 1-3 years of experience in design related field.
• Working knowledge of Autocad, Microsoft products including Word, Excel, Power Point, etc. is required.
• The ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously, exercise patience and diplomacy in all situations is necessary.
• Excellent trouble-shooting and problem solving skills as well as strong creative merchandising skills required.
