What is a remote startup?

A remote startup is a newly established company where the founders and employees work from different locations, rather than from a central office. These startups leverage digital tools and online platforms to communicate, collaborate, and manage projects remotely. This model allows for greater flexibility, access to a global talent pool, and reduced operational costs. However, it also presents challenges in communication, team cohesion, and time zone coordination. Remote startups have become increasingly popular, especially in the tech industry, due to advancements in remote work technology.

What are remote jobs working for startups?

Remote startup jobs exist in various industries. The duties of these virtual positions vary but typically involve taking part in the development of processes, products, and services for a new business. Since these are virtual positions, you handle your responsibilities over the internet. As a software developer at a startup, you may code and test products or create internal programs that a startup can use on their computer network. As a graphic designer, you may create various images and visual elements for the website and/or product packaging. Startups also need remote business development specialists and accountants to create a development plan, make decisions, and handle the company’s finances.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote startup founder, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Startup Founder, you need strong entrepreneurial skills, business acumen, and a solid understanding of your industry, often supported by prior startup or leadership experience. Familiarity with project management tools (like Asana or Trello), remote collaboration platforms (such as Slack or Zoom), and basic financial or analytics software is critical. Exceptional communication, self-motivation, adaptability, and the ability to inspire and lead a distributed team are standout soft skills. These skills and qualifications are vital to successfully launch, manage, and scale a business in a remote environment where clear direction and effective collaboration are crucial.

What unique challenges might I face working for a remote startup, and how can I succeed in this environment?

Working for a remote startup often means adapting to a fast-paced, constantly evolving environment where clear communication and self-motivation are crucial. You may encounter challenges such as managing time across different time zones, handling ambiguity in your role, and building relationships with colleagues you rarely meet in person. To thrive, it's important to proactively communicate, embrace flexibility, and be willing to take initiative on projects. Additionally, leveraging digital collaboration tools and maintaining regular check-ins with your team can help you stay aligned and connected.

Form Health

Full-time

Medical, Retirement, PTO

Posted 7 days ago

Job description

Form Health is a virtual obesity medicine clinic delivering multi-disciplinary evidence-based obesity treatment through telemedicine. Obesity impacts more than 40% of the US adult population, and although historically only about 1% of patients received medical treatment for their disease, the field of Obesity Medicine is entering a period of rapid growth. Form Health provides high-quality expert care and leverages technology to enhance the patient experience. All Form Health patients work closely with their physician-led care team, which also includes advanced practice professionals and Registered Dietitians. Through our proprietary mobile app patients engage in regular video visits, as well as text messaging, photo journaling, digital data transmission, and customized educational materials. We hold ourselves to the highest standards of clinical care, and to treating every individual with empathy and respect.

Founded in 2019, Form Health is a venture-backed innovative startup with an experienced clinical and leadership team. Our mission is to empower patients and be leaders in Obesity Medicine driving impact at a national scale. We are deeply invested in our core value to put patients first, and also deeply committed to creating a culture where every employee is valued and we learn and improve together.

About the Role:

We are seeking obesity medicine physicians to provide longitudinal telehealth care for patients with obesity, and to collaborate with advanced practice professionals and registered dietitians towards exceptional team-based care. Work is remote, and schedules can be flexible.

We are currently accepting applications for a FTE (40 hours per week) Obesity Medicine Physician or Endocrinologist opportunity, who are licensed in ALABAMA, MISSOURI or MISSISSIPPI, OR hold an active IMLC (Interstate Medical Licensure Compact) designation or possess an official Letter of Qualification (LOQ). Licensure in multiple states is a nice-to-have, but not required.

This role will include participation in a rotating after hours call schedule with Form Health clinical leadership and will have a reduced clinical schedule the weeks of on-call coverage.

This is a Full Time (W2, 40hrs/wk) position based in a remote, telemedicine clinical setting. The physician will work closely with a supportive care team and have protected time for administrative duties.

What you will do:
  • Provide direct patient care in a clinical setting, focusing on evidence-based obesity treatment and chronic weight management. The physician will have their own panel and will collaborate with Registered Dietitians.
  • At this time, this role does not collaborate with APPs. In the future, this physician role will be responsible for chart reviews and conduct return visits for APP patients every third visit to ensure quality and continuity of care.
  • Provide treatment planning and medical management support for complex cases or escalated concerns.
  • Prescribe non-controlled obesity medications for patients under direct care
  • Ensure clinical documentation, protocols, and treatment pathways are followed consistently within the team.
  • Assist in the professional development of APPs by fostering clinical growth, offering feedback, and supporting continuing education. This role could include APP collaboration and supervision responsibilities.
  • Participate in team-based care initiatives and contribute to a culture of collaboration and high-quality care.
  • Attend relevant departmental meetings and contribute to quality improvement efforts within the obesity medicine program.

About You:

  • MD or DO degree with board certification; must be an American Board of Obesity Medicine (ABOM) diplomate, or board certified in Endocrinology
  • Are licensed to practice and prescribe legally in ALABAMA, MISSOURI or MISSISSIPPI. Licensure in multiple states is a nice-to-have, but not required
  • This position requires multi-state practice capability. Applicants must either already hold a valid Letter of Qualification (LOQ) through the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact (IMLC) or meet all prerequisites to rapidly secure one upon hire
  • Current or previous credentialing with insurance payers is desired, but not required
  • Are or have in the past credentialed with insurance payers (strong preference for multiple state licenses!)
  • Have excellent interpersonal skills for patient and team interactions
  • Are committed to the highest quality of medical care and an evidence-based approach to obesity management
  • Have prior experience conducting telemedicine visits and who have a great "web-side" manner
  • Have prior experience working collaboratively with advanced practice professionals and registered dietitians
  • Bilingual candidates with medical fluency in Spanish are highly preferred
