Summary:

Goldbelt Apex is actively seeking a qualified Epidemiologist III to provide specialized epidemiological support services. This role will encompass the provision of expertise related to disease epidemiology and surveillance in collaboration with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases, specifically within the Division of Viral Diseases and the Viral Vaccine Preventable Diseases Branch (VVPDB).


Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

  • Conduct epidemiologic studies to advance public health
  • Support surveillance systems, including data ingestion, merging, and maintenance of a dashboard with posting to the website
  • Assemble, organize, and manage epidemiologic and laboratory data; ensure data quality, accuracy, and completeness
  • Promote data workflow and develop process improvements to support epidemiologic and research
  • Communicate with staff at CDC and those at remote sites to ensure compliance with protocol, secure data transfer, and processing
  • Attend conference calls with study sites, monthly coordinator/nurse calls, or other project calls, and record minutes
  • Assist with protocol development and IRB submissions/revisions
  • Perform statistical analyses with a statistical package such as SAS, SPSS, Epi-Info, R, or SUDAAN. Generate tables and figures summarizing epidemiologic analyses suitable for presentation/publication as needed to support team activities
  • Support analytic projects and address key epidemiologic questions using survey and administrative data (e.g., NHANES, MarketScan, iQVIA, Medicare)
  • Support the development of joint analyses and co-author scientific papers for publication and presentation at scientific meetings
  • Support the day-to-day work, including responding to public telephone calls and emails
  • Provide analytical support for other programs in VVPDB, including the Mumps, Varicella Zoster Virus, and other Herpes Programs
  • Support emergency response activities for viral vaccine-preventable disease outbreaks or other agency priorities
  • Submit a monthly progress report, detailing achievements and progress on sub-tasks
  • Support activities related to Herpes/Zoster (HZ) surveillance and epidemiology research
  • Develop analytic plans and engage in analytic projects to address key epidemiologic questions using administrative and electronic medical record data
  • Perform statistical analyses with a statistical package such as SAS, SPSS, Epi-Info, R, or SUDAAN. Generate tables and figures summarizing epidemiologic analyses suitable for presentation/publication as needed to support team activities
  • Disseminate information on HZ and HZ vaccines to the public, healthcare providers, professional organizations, and other internal and external partners through CDC Shingles webpage revisions, frequently asked questions, presentations, and publications

  • Ability to conduct data collection, data management, data cleaning, data visualization, and manipulation
  • Experience in selecting the appropriate statistical tests, implementing, and interpreting results for public health research projects

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior CDC or federal public health experience
  • Surveillance systems experience
  • Publication or co-author experience
  • Familiarity with measles, rubella, HPV, CMV, mumps, VZV, or other viral vaccine-preventable diseases

**NOTE: Must be able to potentially obtain security clearances as needed (i.e., Confidential, Secret, or Top Secret)
