Job description

SEIS is seeking an experienced Software Engineer III to support a high‐profile Fortune 50 Public Sector customer. This role is responsible for leading the design, development, and evolution of complex automation, data, and tracking solutions that support multi‐step, SLA/SLO‐driven operational workflows. The Software Engineer III operates with a high degree of autonomy and technical authority, serving as a key technical partner to IT Project Managers and stakeholders.

The ideal candidate brings advanced hands‐on development experience, strong architectural judgment, and a proven ability to design scalable, secure, and maintainable solutions across multiple systems and technologies.

This is a full‐time, salaried, remote position with limited initial travel as required for onboarding or engagement kickoff.

Solution Architecture & Technical Leadership

· Lead the design and implementation of complex software, automation, and data solutions.

· Define technical approaches, patterns, and standards aligned to business and operational requirements.

· Serve as a technical authority for solution design decisions and trade‐off analysis.

· Review and approve technical designs and code produced by other engineers.

Advanced Development & Automation

· Design, develop, test, and maintain high‐quality, enterprise‐grade software solutions.

· Develop complex SQL solutions supporting application functionality, reporting, business intelligence, and system integrations.

· Lead database schema design, normalization, data modeling, and performance tuning efforts.

· Design and implement data security, integrity, validation, and auditing controls.

· Analyze and optimize query performance, indexing strategies, and database resource utilization.

· Collaborate with software developers, business analysts, project managers, and stakeholders to translate business requirements into efficient and scalable database solutions.

· Support database deployments, migrations, upgrades, backup and recovery activities, and change management processes.

Data, Integration & Systems Engineering

· Architect and implement integrations across multiple systems, including legacy platforms.

· Lead data modeling, normalization, and transformation efforts across disparate data sources.

· Perform advanced analysis to support operational insight, reporting, and decision‐making.

· Identify and resolve complex system, integration, and data issues.

Project Execution & Collaboration

· Partner closely with IT Project Managers to shape technical scope, estimates, and delivery plans.

· Translate high‐level requirements into detailed technical designs and implementation strategies.

· Proactively identify technical risks and constraints and recommend mitigation strategies.

· Support testing strategies, deployment planning, and production readiness.

Sustainment & Continuous Improvement

· Drive continuous improvement of existing applications, automation, and data pipelines.

· Lead root‐cause analysis for production issues and implement long‐term corrective actions.

· Identify opportunities to reduce technical debt and improve system reliability and performance.

· Contribute to documentation, standards, and long‐term technical roadmaps.

Mentorship & Team Development

· Mentor and guide Software Engineer IIs and junior engineers.

· Provide technical leadership through code reviews, design reviews, and knowledge sharing.

· Promote engineering best practices and a culture of quality and accountability.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

· 6–8+ years of software engineering experience in an enterprise or technical environment

· 5+ years of experience designing, developing, and optimizing Microsoft SQL Server database solutions, including stored procedures, views, functions, indexing strategies, and performance tuning.

· Strong experience with T-SQL development, relational database design, normalization, indexing, and query optimization.

· Experience developing and maintaining stored procedures, views, functions, triggers, and other database objects.

· Experience translating business requirements into scalable database architectures and data models. Advanced understanding of software engineering principles, design patterns, and SDLC

· Demonstrated experience leading complex technical solutions from design through delivery

· Strong ability to communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non‐technical stakeholders

· Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem‐solving skills

· Bachelor’s degree in Software Development, Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent hands-on experience.

Preferred Qualifications

· 8+ years of software engineering experience

· Experience supporting database modernization or migration initiatives from legacy database platforms to Microsoft SQL Server.

· Experience architecting and integrating enterprise and legacy systems
