What is remote software sales?

Remote software sales is a job where professionals sell software products or services to clients without working from a centralized office location. Instead, they connect with potential customers through phone calls, emails, video conferencing, and other online tools. This role involves identifying leads, demonstrating software features, negotiating contracts, and closing sales—all while working remotely. Remote software sales allows for greater flexibility and often requires strong communication, self-motivation, and technical understanding.

What are remote software sales jobs?

Remote software sales jobs allow you to work from home to generate new business by selling software and technology products. In this telecommute role, you help close leads, participate in prospecting activities, and generally help to increase the sales numbers of the software in question. You often discuss requirements with customers, propose solutions, present pre-sales demonstrations, prepare quotes, and assist other salespeople as needed. This is a largely independent position that offers significant flexibility in its approach to the sales process. Compensation could come in the form of a salary or hourly pay, but some companies use an exclusively commission-based system for remote software sales jobs.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote software sales professional, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Software Sales professional, you need strong sales acumen, in-depth knowledge of software products, and a proven track record in meeting or exceeding sales targets. Familiarity with CRM systems like Salesforce, video conferencing tools, and sales enablement platforms is typically required. Exceptional communication, self-motivation, and relationship-building abilities help you stand out in remote, client-focused environments. These skills are crucial for effectively engaging prospects, closing deals, and driving revenue in a competitive, virtual marketplace.

How do remote software sales professionals typically stay connected and collaborate with their teams and clients?

Remote software sales professionals rely heavily on digital communication tools such as Slack, Zoom, and CRM platforms to stay connected with both their teams and clients. Regular virtual meetings, updates, and collaborative platforms help ensure everyone is aligned on goals, product updates, and client needs. As a Regional Vice President (RVP), you have a premier opportunity to scale a high-growth territory and lead a dedicated team of Enterprise Account Executives. This is not a role focused on maintaining the status quo; you will actively shape territory strategies, engage in high-level tactical discussions with C-suite and agency champions, and directly influence Appian's expansion across major enterprise and public sector accounts.

What You'll Do

  • Lead and Mentor Teams: Guide a team of direct sales professionals, providing tactical coaching to ensure individual and team quota achievement.
  • Orchestrate Cross-Functional Resources: Align resources across the customer relationship lifecycle-from initial lead generation to delivery-to ensure total fulfillment of the client's business case.
  • Build Executive Relationships: Establish and maintain executive-level relationships with key decision-makers and thought leaders within prospective and existing accounts.
  • Execute Strategic Territory Planning: Drive sophisticated territory planning, pricing strategies, and contract negotiations to secure high-value, multi-year enterprise agreements.
Required Qualifications

  • Experience: 10+ years of quota-carrying enterprise software sales experience selling into large, complex organizations.
  • Leadership: Proven track record of building and leading multi-channel sales organizations with consistent quota achievement.
  • Sales Methodologies: Strategic mastery of complex sales methodologies, territory decisioning, accurate pipeline forecasting, and executive-level negotiation.
  • Domain Depth: Strong background leading sales efforts across all functional areas of an enterprise, with deep expertise in platform sales, Case Management, or Enterprise Applications.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong vertical expertise within the Federal Enterprise software markets.
  • Mastery of modern forecasting platforms and data-driven CRM tools like Salesforce or Clari.
  • We value experience with enterprise platforms such as Salesforce or ServiceNow, as these skills translate well into our Enterprise-Grade Orchestration environment.
