Description
Waggoner Engineering is hiring a Senior Project Engineer - Bridge Design for our Baton Rouge, LA office. The role has the possibility of being remote for the right candidate.
The role will provide quality planning, design and technical assistance to the Discipline Manager and other members of the design team in delivering projects within budgetary and time constraints.
Compensation & Benefits:
  • Base Salary: Competitive, commensurate with experience
  • Signing Bonus: You will receive a one-time signing bonus of $10,000, payable within 30 days of your start date.
  • Clawback Provision: If you voluntarily resign or are terminated for cause within 12 months of your start date, you agree to repay the signing bonus in full.

Your Primary Responsibilities will include
  • Performs engineering analysis and design for bridges and related structures, including new construction and rehabilitation.
  • Conducts assessment and evaluation of existing bridge structural conditions and develops recommended remedial measures.
  • Performs as-design, as-built, and condition bridge load ratings in accordance with governing AASHTO and client specifications.
  • Prepares construction plans, specifications, and contract documents for contracting and bidding of construction projects.
  • Performs construction phase engineering, including periodic on-site reviews, in collaboration with the Construction Services team.
  • Understands typical bridge constructability areas of focus, including multi-phased construction, transportation, and erection of various bridge components.
  • Maintains and documents written and verbal communications with clients throughout the development and completion of a project.
  • Conducts project status review with project manager and team members, checking accuracy of work completed, and monitors timeliness of project completion.
  • Attends meetings on project management.
  • Assists Project Managers with administrative duties concerning completion of assigned projects, including review of schedules, scopes and budgets.
  • Assists Project Manager in preparation of engineering studies and reports.
  • Provides technical guidance and training to members of the project team.
  • Prepares project design using sound engineering principles, engineering software and tools.
  • Assists in preparation of contract documents and technical specifications.
  • Assists Project Manager in assuring quality control procedures are performed.
  • Maintains responsibility for the accuracy of each segment of the work and the final check of the work.
  • Maintains responsibility for adherence to applicable codes.

What you'll need
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering is required.
  • Minimum of 8 years of bridge and related structural design experience, including 5+ years of experience in the technical production of engineering projects, including significant direct experience on projects involving the planning, design, and evaluation of bridges.
  • Extensive knowledge of the LADOTD Bridge Design policies, procedures, and memoranda preferred.
  • Ability to prepare engineering records and write concise technical reports.

Certifications/Registrations
  • Licensed as a Professional Engineer (PE) in Louisiana is required.
  • Licensure as a PE or ability to obtain such in contiguous states is desired.
  • Certifications applicable to civil engineering, structural and bridge design and inspection desired.

Other Knowledge and Skills
  • Proficient in design using Bentley LEAP or other LADOTD approved software.
  • Microstation and/or AutoCAD Civil 3D experience software is preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project required.
  • Knowledge of design, on-line reports and databases preferred.
  • Superior communication skills and in-depth knowledge of company products and operations.
