Job description

GENERAL SUMMARY: 

Responsible for the programming of arrhythmic devices in a safe and effective manner.  Troubleshoots and determines device solutions, conducts in-clinic and remote monitoring. Performs data management, scheduling, documentation, education and other duties associated with Arrhythmia Services.   

PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 

  1. *Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values. 

  1. *Performs and evaluates in-clinic and remote monitoring, including analyzing rhythm strips for proper device function. 

  1. *Operates a variety of programmers (Biotronik, Boston Scientific, ELA, Medtronic, and Abbott) to assess pacemaker, defibrillator and implantable loop monitor function during clinic visits. 

  1. *Attaches ECG electrodes to patients, as necessary, to assist in achieving proper documentation of sensing and capture during programming as well as other troubleshooting issues; maintains patient comfort and safety during procedures. 

  1. *Evaluates symptoms prior to physician evaluation to gather data on chronotropic incompetence, when symptoms occur; correlates to device function as needed. 

  1. *Analyzes and provides solutions to remote technical problems related to transmission quality and transmitter function. 

  1. *Analyzes and provides solutions to programming technical problems related to quality of ECG and programmer function. 

  1. *Provides technical support to physicians, patients and other staff as needed.   

  1. *Researches device issues related to generators, lead wires, adapters, programming choices and helps summarize data/information for midlevel, cardiologist or electrophysiologist.  

  1. *Contacts appropriate personnel/vendor when a device problem is identified and needs follow-up. 

  1. *Enters implant data, programming changes, appointments and other information, as needed, in current database system. 

  1. *Ensures that charges and diagnoses are documented and submitted to Billing Services via Electronic Health Record (EHR) for arrhythmic devices and procedures. 

  1. Schedules remote, pacemaker and Implantable Cardiac Device (ICD), and implantable loop recorder. 

  1. Contacts nursing homes, physicians, outstate cardiology clinic sites and other people, as necessary, to schedule appointments; reschedule appointments and send out appointment letters as needed. 

  1. *Creates remote and clinic reports for pacemakers, ICDs and implantable loop recorders, generated from current database. 

  1. *Records interactions with patients in progress notes of EHR when necessary; provides information to office nurses when further physician follow-up is needed. 

  1. Educates healthcare professionals, patients and others on various aspects of pacing and defibrillation. 

  1. *Teaches patients and family members how to properly operate remote transmitters; reinforces concepts and information provided to patients and their families by physician, mid-levels and other staff. 

  1. *Participates in continuing education to meet requirements of cardiac device specialist certification; endeavors to keep abreast of new and developing technologies associated with the area of pacing and electrophysiology. 

  1. *Assists physicians and staff in complying with end-of-life decisions, helping educate and arrange programming to deactivate devices as needed. 

  1. Assists in developing procedures to maintain efficiency in the department, office, outstate clinics and other areas within Bryan Heart. 

  1. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise. 

  1. Participates in meetings, committees and department projects as assigned. 

  1. Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.  

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 

High school diploma or equivalency required.  Completion of post-high school course work in medical or related field desired.   

OTHER CREDENTIALS / CERTIFICATIONS: 

Basic Life Support (CPR) certification required. Bryan Health recognizes American Heart Association (for healthcare 

professionals), American Red Cross (for healthcare professionals) and the Military Training Network. 

International Board of Heart Rhythm Education Certified Cardiac Device Specialist (IBHRE CCDS) encouraged but not required after five (5) years of employment.
