Duties, Responsibilities & Other

The Engineering Designer shouldhave experience with both stormwater modeling and design/implementation of drainage and conveyance infrastructure. This role includes working with current team members to complete flood studies/no-rise analyses, bridge hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, stormwater master planning, municipal and DOT drainage/culvert analysis and design, and 2D hydraulic analyses.will design and prepare drawings for various civil, transportation, traffic, structural, mechanical, water/wastewater, and utility projects. The Engineering Designer will work closely under the supervision of a Professional Engineer, contributing to engineering calculations, drafting, and coordination of multiple engineering disciplines. This role requires a knowledge of engineering principles, relevant design software such as MicroStation, AutoCAD, or Revit, as well as strong communication, technical writing skills, and proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.

Open to hiring in any KCI South Carolina office with hybrid/remote options.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Completion of hydrologic and hydraulic studies (floodplain, drainage improvement, climate resiliency, dam breach).
  • Design and preparation of construction drawings for various water resources projects. Projects include: drainage, stormwater management, erosion and sediment control, restoration.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, MicroStation and/or AutoCAD, HEC-RAS, ArcGIS required. Civil3D, InRoads, and/or OpenRoads experience preferred.
  • Assist in the development of multiple projects and plans.  These duties will be performed under the supervision of a project engineer or project manager.
  • Performs work which involves conventional types of plans, investigations, surveys, structures, or equipment.  Assignments usually include engineering calculations, interpretation of engineering drawing and specifications, and assistance with proposal preparation.  Helps to coordinate work of multiple engineering disciplines, as well as drafting/CADD work for the project.  Assists in preparing progress reports and may supervise small projects.
  • Candidate must have good written and verbal communication skills.  Must be a self-motivated dynamic individual.
  • EIT certification preferred (ability to obtain PE within two years required).

Education and/or Skills Required:

  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET-Accredited Program
  • Proficiency in required design software such as MicroStation, AutoCAD, or Revit.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Good communication and technical writing skills.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to think critically.

Certificates, licenses, and/or Registrations Required:

  • Ability to maintain required certifications

  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification
