Remote Software Engineer University jobs refer to positions where software engineers work for universities or academic institutions but perform their duties remotely, often from home or another offsite location. These roles typically involve developing, maintaining, or supporting software and IT systems used in educational settings, such as learning management systems, research databases, or university websites. The remote nature of the job allows for flexible work hours and can attract candidates from diverse geographical locations. Responsibilities may range from coding and debugging to collaborating with faculty and staff to enhance digital tools for students and educators.

What are some common challenges faced by remote software engineers working in a university setting?

Remote software engineers in a university environment often navigate unique challenges, such as collaborating across diverse academic departments and aligning technical solutions with educational goals. Communication can be more complex due to varying schedules and priorities among faculty, staff, and students. Additionally, engineers must frequently adapt to legacy systems or open-source platforms commonly used by universities. Staying proactive in communication and leveraging collaborative tools are key to overcoming these hurdles and ensuring project success.

Job description

Software Engineer - Tristero

About the Position:

We're on the lookout for clever, early stage software engineers.  At Tristero we build high performance distributed systems, and our engineers play a pivotal role in the company's success. We do a lot of systems design/implementation - primarily in golang. Our culture embraces experimentation and intellectual curiosity, favoring pragmatic, straightforward solutions over more complex but theoretically perfect ones.

About You:

  • Autodidactic: You thrive on self-guided learning and exploration.
  • Assertive: You are confident in voicing your thoughts on alternative approaches.
  • Systems-Oriented: You understand the broader impact of your code on the system as a whole.
  • Intrapersonal Skills: You want to be part of a small, high-caliber team.

Helpful Qualifications:

  • You've recently graduated from a top engineering school (or are willing to drop out)
  • Experience in golang, python, or rust
  • Familiarity with cryptography or crypto-L2s
  • Exposure to devops, statistics, and system architecture

While helpful, we don't require you to have experience with systems-design, golang, or crypto; we're happy to hire clever engineers and support them.
