Remote Software Engineer Internships information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Software Engineer Intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Software Engineer Intern, you need a solid understanding of programming fundamentals, familiarity with languages like Python, Java, or JavaScript, and enrollment in or completion of a relevant degree program. Experience with version control systems (like Git), development environments, and sometimes cloud platforms or Agile tools is often required. Strong communication, self-motivation, and problem-solving abilities are crucial for collaborating effectively in a remote setting. These skills and qualities ensure interns can contribute meaningfully to projects, adapt to remote workflows, and learn efficiently from distributed teams.

What are some common challenges faced during remote software engineer internships, and how can interns overcome them?

Remote software engineer interns often encounter challenges such as limited real-time communication, difficulty understanding project requirements without in-person guidance, and feeling disconnected from the team. To overcome these, interns should proactively schedule regular check-ins with mentors, make use of collaboration tools (like Slack or Zoom), and document their work thoroughly. Engaging in team meetings, asking questions early, and participating in virtual social events can also help build relationships and foster a sense of belonging within the team.

What are Remote Software Engineer Internships?

Remote Software Engineer Internships are temporary positions where students or recent graduates work online with a company, contributing to software development projects from a remote location. These internships allow individuals to gain real-world engineering experience, enhance their programming skills, and collaborate with professional teams without needing to relocate. Interns typically work on tasks such as coding, debugging, testing software, and participating in virtual meetings. These opportunities are ideal for those seeking flexibility and exposure to industry practices in a remote work environment.

Job description

Software Engineer - .NET / C#
CaseGlide • St. Petersburg, FL • Remote-Friendly • Full-Time
This position is open to candidates residing in Florida or New York only. Applicants located outside of these states will not be considered.
ABOUT CASEGLIDE
CaseGlide is a litigation intelligence platform used by insurance companies and corporate claims departments to manage their legal portfolios. Our software helps 15+ clients - including national insurers, specialty carriers and Fortune 500 companies - track cases, control legal spend, and drive better litigation outcomes. We've helped clients save tens of millions of dollars in legal costs, and we're still growing.
We're a small, focused team. There's no politics, no layers. Your work ships to real clients immediately and has real consequences. If that sounds appealing, read on.
THE ROLE
We're looking for a software engineer who is comfortable living in an existing codebase - reading unfamiliar code, diagnosing bugs, making targeted fixes, and shipping with confidence. You'll be responsible for maintaining and improving a production platform that's actively used every day.
This is not a greenfield role. The architecture exists. The patterns are established. Your job is to understand them, work within them, and make things better over time.
You'll report to our VP of Engineering with direct access to the CEO. We use AI-assisted development tools extensively (Claude Code) - comfort with AI-assisted workflows is a plus.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Diagnose and fix bugs across a multi-service .NET platform
  • Upgrade, configure, and improve existing systems
  • Write and optimize SQL queries and stored procedures
  • Participate in requirements discussions and help scope features
  • Test and deploy fixes to staging and production environments
  • Maintain documentation as part of the development lifecycle
  • Communicate clearly and proactively when something is broken or unclear

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Required
  • Must currently reside in the state of Florida (FL) or New York (NY). Candidates located outside of these states are not eligible and will not be reviewed.
  • 3+ years of experience in .NET / C# development
  • Strong SQL Server skills - queries, stored procedures, debugging slow queries
  • Experience with ASP.NET MVC or WebAPI
  • Comfort working in existing codebases you didn't write
  • Solid troubleshooting instincts - you trace problems rather than guess
  • Familiarity with GitHub and Jira (or comparable tools)
  • Clear written communication

Nice to Have
  • Blazor WASM or .NET 6+ WebAPI experience
  • Entity Framework
  • WCF / service-oriented architecture background
  • GitHub Actions / CI-CD pipeline experience
  • Agile / Jira workflow experience

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
  • Compensation: $95,000-$130,000 depending on experience
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance
  • Life insurance, Long-Term Disability, AD&D
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Paid time off
  • Flexible, results-oriented work environment - we care about the quality of your output, not the hours you're at your desk
  • Remote-friendly: we trust you to do great work wherever you do it best

REPORTING STRUCTURE
Reports to: Charles Kirker, VP of Engineering, with direct access to Wes Todd, CEO.
HOW TO APPLY
Submit your resume and a brief note on your .NET background. We don't need a cover letter but tell us something specific - a type of system you've worked in, a bug you're proud of tracking down, or why this role makes sense for where you are right now.
CaseGlide is an equal opportunity employer. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States. Candidates must reside in Florida (FL) or New York (NY) to be considered for this role.
