What is a remote software developer?

A Remote Software Developer is a professional who designs, builds, and maintains software applications while working from a location outside of a traditional office, often from home or another remote setting. These developers collaborate with team members using online communication and project management tools. Remote work allows for greater flexibility and access to global job opportunities, but it also requires strong self-motivation and communication skills. Companies hire remote software developers to tap into a wider talent pool and to offer flexible work arrangements.

What does a remote software developer do?

Remote software developers design and create computer software programs and systems for their employer or client. Unlike in-house software developers, remote software developers work from home or another location outside of the office. As a remote software developer, you discuss the kind of program you need to create, making sure to clarify with your department or with your client what they need in their application. You may develop an entirely new program or improve an existing one. Remote developers are responsible for a program’s overall framework, and they design precise workflow charts that explain to programmers what code is needed for different aspects of the program. Remote software developers also design tests and protocols for the QA department to follow when they are testing the application.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote software developer?

To thrive as a Remote Software Developer, you need strong programming skills, problem-solving ability, and a relevant degree or equivalent experience in computer science or software engineering. Familiarity with common development tools (such as Git, Visual Studio Code, and CI/CD platforms) and frameworks, as well as knowledge of cloud services, are typically required. Excellent communication, self-motivation, and time management skills help you collaborate effectively and stay productive in a remote setting. These skills and qualities are essential for delivering high-quality software, meeting deadlines, and contributing to distributed teams.

How do remote software developers stay connected and collaborate effectively with their teams?

Remote software developers typically use a variety of collaboration tools, such as Slack, Microsoft Teams, and Zoom, to communicate with colleagues and participate in daily stand-ups or sprint planning meetings. Version control systems like GitHub or GitLab are essential for code collaboration and review. Regular check-ins, clear documentation, and agile workflows help ensure everyone stays aligned and productive despite working from different locations. Proactive communication and time management are crucial for overcoming the challenges of remote work and successfully contributing to team goals.

Job description

At Ametris, we partner with world-class life sciences organizations to transform complex, real-world patient data into validated clinical evidence. Our end-to-end Digital Health Technology (DHT) platform integrates medical-grade wearable sensors, regulatory-aligned data analytics, and expert scientific support to simplify clinical trials. By pioneering objective digital endpoints in therapeutic areas like CNS, neuromuscular, and respiratory diseases, we empower global research teams to run smarter trials, reduce patient burden, and accelerate life-saving therapeutic innovation.

We are seeking a Senior Technical Product Manager (TPM) to own the core infrastructure, data pipelines, and API integrations powering our global DHT platform. In this role, you will sit at the crossroads of hardware engineering, data science, and cloud software. You will be responsible for translating complex clinical, scientific, and regulatory requirements into concrete technical roadmaps.

The ideal candidate has deep experience managing complex data-intensive platforms, a strong understanding of cloud architecture, and a passion for shaping the future of digital medicine.

The essential duties and responsibilities for this role include:

    • Platform Vision & Roadmap: Own the technical product lifecycle and roadmap for Ametris’ core data ingestion engines, cloud architecture, and developer APIs.
    • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with Data Science, Firmware/Hardware Engineering, and Cloud Software teams to safely scale data handling from raw wearable sensor outputs to regulatory-compliant digital endpoints.
    • API & Integration Strategy: Define and document robust, developer-friendly APIs and data pipelines that seamlessly integrate Ametris with clinical trial systems (e.g., Electronic Data Capture / EDC platforms).
    • Regulatory Alignment: Collaborating with Quality and Regulatory teams to ensure our data platforms strictly adhere to life science standards, including FDA 21 CFR Part 11, HIPAA, GDPR, and GxP guidelines.
    • Technical Requirements: Author highly technical PRDs, architectural overviews, and granular epic/user story backlogs. Champion Agile/Scrum methodologies across engineering squads.
    • Data Analytics & Infrastructure: Drive technical strategies around raw signal processing storage, high-throughput cloud ingestion, and machine learning/algorithm deployment frameworks.

All responsibilities are to be performed in accordance with the Ametris core values, standards, policies, and procedures.

As an equal opportunity employer, all employment at Ametris is governed without regard to, nor influenced by, race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, pregnancy, age, national origin, disability status, genetic information, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Required Qualifications
    • Experience: 5+ years of Product Management experience, with a heavy emphasis on Technical Product Management (TPM) or Platform Product Management.
    • Industry: Proven track record working within HealthTech, Digital Health, Biotech, or Medical Devices.
    • Technical Domain: Hands-on experience scaling distributed cloud systems (Azure preferred), relational/non-relational databases, and complex data pipeline architectures.
    • Interoperability: Deep understanding of RESTful APIs, data serialization, and healthcare data exchange standards.
  • Preferred Qualifications
    • Familiarity with digital clinical measures, actigraphy data, signal processing, or biometric wearable sensors.
    • Prior experience navigating the FDA Software as a Medical Device (SaMD) landscape or validated systems environments.
    • Strong analytical skills using SQL, Python, or data visualization tools to evaluate data health and platform performance.

Educational Requirements

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Biomedical Engineering, or a closely related technical field (or equivalent practical experience).

At Ametris, we do our best to offer benefits and a work environment that is positive, fun, and tailored towards the needs and feedback of our team members. We do so by offering:

  • A casual "dress-code" environment
  • A family-oriented and collaborative workplace

  • And a very generous suite of benefits including: medical, dental, vision, basic/life accidental, short/long term disability, identity theft, 401K (plus a match), and supplemental insurance options.
